[1/17/23] Confidence continues to grow for a winter system to arrive in the mid-week, with snow spreading over the area after midnight Wednesday night through Thursday. The axis of the highest snowfall could still shift a bit north or south but several inches of snow seem likely for much of northeastern WI, the bulk of which is currently forecast to arrive between midnight and noon on Thursday. This will impact the Thursday morning commute along with anyone who has travel plans on Thursday.

Hello everyone! Mark Heller here at WLAK and WGBW. Friday is a very special day for me, and I want to thank you for your support and friendship over these many years. On Friday, we're going to start the transfer of our two radio stations and two FM translators to a new owner, Civic Media, based in Madison. We're happy to have Civic take over, with a young owner interesting in Wisconsin radio stations. Already they own Jackson, Berlin, Wis. Rapids, Wausau, Richland Center, Amery and others. I've celebrated fifty years in broadcasting this past year, and forty years as owner of WGBW and 12 years as owner of WLAK, and it's been a great time. Starting on Friday, you'll find the change over to Civic Media's programming, and we wish them the very best. I'm looking forward to retirement, and want to thank you for your friendship and support over these many years. It's been my honor to be playing the oldies for you all these many years. Lake effect snow showers will continue across north-central Wisconsin tonight with a few flurries elsewhere. Quiet weather is forecast for the upcoming weekend as high pressure moves across the region. Clouds will be more prevalent on Sunday as a weather system approaches for early next week. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal.

8:37 PM 1/9/23: I don't know about you, but I can take these milder January temperatures. It is much nicer launching the weather balloon with temps in the 20s and 30s. I was the lucky contestant last month with a balloon launch at -7F, with a wind chill of -32F and winds gusting to 32 knots. Also, definitely will save a little on the heating bill for the first half of January. The true arctic air is well north of the Canadian border.
