There comes a point when healing starts to sound a little different.

For years, I looked outside myself for permission.

Permission to say no.
Permission to change my mind.
Permission to have boundaries.
Permission to take up space.
Permission to choose what was right for me, even when someone else didn’t understand it.

I’m learning I don’t need that permission anymore.

That doesn’t mean I never second-guess myself. I do. Old patterns don’t disappear just because we finally recognize them.

But now, when that familiar voice asks, “What will everyone think?”

I’m learning to ask a different question:

“What do I think?”

I can be kind without abandoning myself.
I can love people without shrinking for them.
I can choose peace without explaining why.

I spent enough years waiting for someone else to tell me it was okay to choose me.

I’m not waiting anymore. 🔥

And if you’re learning this part too, I’m right here walking through it with you.

For a long time, I thought being sensitive, emotional, overwhelmed, or affected so deeply meant there was something wrong with me.

So I tried to fix myself.

I tried to toughen up. Stop overthinking. Stop feeling so much. Be easier. Be stronger. Need less.

But somewhere along the way, I started seeing it differently.

Maybe those parts of me weren’t proof that I was broken. Maybe they were parts of me that learned how to survive things I didn’t yet know how to process.

And that realization changes the way you look back at the woman you used to be.

I don’t want to criticize her anymore.

I want to sit beside her and say, “You’re carrying more than anyone realizes. You’re doing the best you know how to do. And one day, you’re going to understand yourself so much differently.”

If you’re still in the part where you wonder what’s wrong with you, I’m walking with you there too.

You don’t have to figure it all out today. ❤️

Maybe the version of you that kept everyone happy got you this far. But she doesn’t have to come with you into the next chapter. 🔥

You’re allowed to release the guilt.
The people-pleasing.
The need for approval.
The fear of disappointing people.
The belief that choosing yourself makes you selfish.

You can love people AND stop abandoning yourself to keep them comfortable.

A little reminder before the day gets busy. ❤️

You don’t have to earn your worth today.

You don’t have to be productive enough, strong enough, helpful enough, or have everything figured out.

You already matter.

So drink your coffee, take the deep breath, and give yourself some of the kindness you so freely give everyone else. 🤍

Maybe someone you know needs this reminder today, too.

You left a space in my life
that no one else could ever fill.

A thousand things remind me of you,
and somehow every one of them
makes me smile and breaks my heart
at the same time.

But you left me something, too.

You left me your laugh.
Your smile.
Your little voice.
The moments I never knew
would become some of my most precious memories.

So I will carry them.

I will say your name.
I will tell your stories.
I will love you out loud
for as long as I am here.

And I will keep looking for you
in every beautiful thing
that makes me stop for just a second
and think of you.

Because losing you
didn’t end my love for you.

It just changed the way
I have to love you now.

I will forever be your Gigi.
You will forever be my Abel.

And I will forever wish
you were still here. ❤️

This is how I’m holding on right now… one day at a time.

My days don’t look the same anymore.

Sometimes I’m walking through life almost numb, trying to do the things I’m supposed to do. Then a wave of sorrow comes out of nowhere and completely knocks the air out of me. And eventually, I find my way back to the numbness again.

Numb.
Sorrow.
Numb.
Repeat.

I keep trying to get my brain to wake back up. To focus. To remember things. To function the way I used to. But I think part of me is still in survival mode, trying to understand how the world can keep moving when mine changed so completely.

I’m not sharing this because I want anyone to feel sorry for me.

I’m sharing it because this is what grief looks like for me right now.

David Kessler talks about how important it is for grief to be witnessed, for someone in grief to feel seen and not alone in what they’re carrying. I think I’m beginning to understand that.

Sometimes sharing our grief isn’t asking someone to fix it. There is no fixing it. Sometimes we simply need another human being to say, “I see you. I know this hurts. You don’t have to carry it completely alone.”

And grief doesn’t look the same for everyone.

Some people talk.
Some people get quiet.
Some people cry constantly.
Some can’t cry at all.
Some need to stay busy.
Some need to create.
Some need people around them.
Some need space.

And sometimes the same person needs all of those things on different days.

There isn’t one right way to grieve someone you love.

So this is where I am today.

I’m not trying to figure out the rest of my life yet.

I’m just trying to make it through this day.

One day at a time. ❤️

Thanks for listening.
