We’re excited to let you all know that after more production and mailing delays than we care to count, Rodder’s Journal #87 is finally in the mail and headed your way.

We know we’ve communicated about its impending release before. We could explain why it’s taken so long, but we know most of you don’t need the details—you just need your TRJ. And we’ve got another issue to finish anyway, so we’ll keep this short. It left the mailing house yesterday and you'll be seeing it in your mailbox soon. Please let us know when you receive it.

We thank you for your continued patience, and we’re excited to finally get these magazines in your hands. We worked hard on the content within, and we think you’re going to enjoy it.

If you have questions about the status of your subscription, please feel free to email us at

Stay tuned for more news on upcoming issues and goings-on around The Rodder’s Journal as we head into the holiday season.

We hope all our readers have been enjoying a great summer of hot rodding and cruising. We’re happy to share the good news that issue #87 of The Rodder’s Journal is finally out of production purgatory and has been delivered to the mailing house and will be mailing to subscribers soon!

We couldn’t be more excited to share the content we’ve created for you. Feature cars run the gamut of traditional rodding, customizing, and racing, including historic restorations (Pete Eastwood’s Samurai Top Fueler and Rich Hubbard's Barris-built Tom Hocker Forty) and a pair of time-capsule Deuce roadsters belonging to our friends Steve Wertheimer and “Flat Top Bob” Owens. We also explore Cody Walls’ concept custom ’49 Buick and Andy Volpini’s pair of road warriors, as well as the Triple Crown of Rodding event in Nashville. Jay Fitzhugh delves into the detailed world of traditional hot rod hardware and fasteners, and noted automotive designer Larry Erickson shares his take on Bonneville racing history.

We know the gaps in our production have led some of you to question the future of TRJ. We figure the best way to answer that question is not by telling you what we’re going to do, but by showing you—starting with the shipping of TRJ #87 and following up quickly with issue #88, which is already photographed, largely written, and is in the design and editing phases.

For those who want to support us, we invite you to renew your subscription now.

For those who would like to wait, we will make copies of issue #87 available for individual purchase, though they will not mail until after the subscriber mailing is complete.

And for those who have moved on from TRJ, we want to again express our sincere appreciation for your past support.

The traditional rodding and customizing world is more active and exciting than ever and we’re anxiously looking forward to covering it in the fashion we’ve become known for.

If you have questions about the status of your subscription, please feel free to email us at

We wanted to respond once again to our international subscribers. We understand your frustration. We have had a difficult time this year getting product delivered outside the U.S. because of issues with the postal service, and this holiday season even some shipments within the states have been delayed. We've explained that issue #83 remains "significantly delayed," according to the postal service, and that we held issue #84 to make sure we didn't have the same delivery problems with it.

The fact that some of you have received catalogs and some haven't is the crux of the problem. Catalogs were mailed not just to promote our holiday offerings, but to see how reliable the postal service is at this point in the pandemic. They were mailed prior to Thanksgiving, and as customers in prior responses here have noted, some have received them and some have not—over a month after they mailed out. Some customers in our own state haven't received them, nor have we received the copy we mail to ourselves from the post office less than two miles away.

Our customer service staff spent the last week returning voicemails and emails from customers regarding orders that have not been delivered. Although we held issue #84 until we identified a more reliable way to get it to international subscribers, we plan to mail it soon. Issue #85 should be following not long after.

Our magazine staff took a break from working on TRJ #85 to help them get caught up. We are still working through those messages and emails, so if you've contacted us at the office you should be hearing back from someone this week. If you haven't contacted us at the office but would like to discuss your order, you can reach us at 804-496-6906 or [email protected].

Again, we hear the frustration expressed by those who haven't received their magazines or gotten a response from our customers service. We are doing our best to get caught up and resolve any issues as we kick off the new year.

Sincerely,
The Rodder's Journal Team
