Sadly, I have some bad news on resident cat Watson. This morning, I noticed him spending a lot of time in the litter box with no results. I checked the PetivityByPurina tracker and saw he’d been in and out 3 times in the last hour with no urine. For male cats, this is a true medical emergency. There is no wait and see. They can die within 24 hours. So I got him to an ER right away, and sure enough, he had a urinary blockage. We don’t know the cause, other than possibly stress, but luckily I caught it early, so all of diagnostics are normal and they easily unblocked him. We’re hopeful he’ll be able to come home tomorrow. He’ll need to be on urinary specialized food the rest of his life, which means no treats. Poor guy 😩
This is a risk for all male cats, so much so, that, as of a few months ago, Denver Kittens Org started including it as a disclaimer for all of our male cat adoptions. It’s extra important to feed male cats wet food and make sure they stay hydrated.
