Dear Frigidaire,

Who decided the bottom of this refrigerator door should be hollow all the way to the floor?

Open the door without looking and BAM—right to the toes. Ouch!

As a home inspector, I see a lot of interesting design choices, but this one feels like a built-in toe-stubbing feature. While not a safety defect, it’s definitely a pain point for unsuspecting homeowners.

Hearing popping or rumbling noises from your water heater???

That sound is often caused by sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. As water gets trapped under the sediment layer and heats up, it creates those popping and cracking noises.

Over time, this can:• Reduce efficiency• Increase energy bills• Overheat the tank• Shorten the life of the water heater

Regular flushing and maintenance can help prevent bigger problems down the road. Don’t ignore the warning signs your water heater is giving you.

Just because the “leak” stopped at the fixture doesn’t mean the problem is fixedThis washer supply line was connected to a garden hose nozzle in an attempt to stop a leak… but behind the wall it was still actively leaking the entire time.Temporary fixes can sometimes hide much bigger issues and by the time it’s discovered, there can already be water damage, mold, or structural concerns.

Always investigate the source, not just the symptom.

Roots growing into the basement is not a good sign!

Inspector life never clocks out 😅

Thought I was off duty… until I found a leaky sink in my own house. What started as a small drip turned into water making its way straight into the crawlspace

Cause: Loose connection + slow leak over time
Effect: Hidden moisture where you don’t want it… hello potential mold, wood damage, and $$$ repairs

Moral of the story: Even the smallest leaks can turn into big problems if they go unnoticed. Check under those sinks!

But hey… yay for warranties 🙌

Once the gutter was moved into the correct position, the water drained properly away from the house.

Cause: Gutter not angled correctly
Effect: Water sits, overflows, and can backflow toward the foundation

Electrical FAIL you don’t see every day…

Walked into a kitchen with no power anywhere… outlets dead, nothing working.

But here’s the wild part… The power ONLY came on when the garbage disposal switch was flipped ON and the oven was turned on at the same time

Yeah… read that again.

This wasn’t just a simple issue—this was a wiring mess that took some serious digging to figure out. Crossed circuits, improper wiring, and a setup that could’ve easily turned into a bigger problem.

This is why inspections matter. What looks like “just no power” could actually be something way deeper (and dangerous).

If something feels off in your property… it probably is.

This panel had its time… but it’s time is up ⚡️
Federal Pacific panels are known safety risks and should be replaced—not ignored.

Don’t gamble with your home’s safety.

Did they build homes better back in the day? Or is there more to that statement?
