At the Gothic, the air was already primed—ozone and sweat, the low thrum of a room that knows it’s about to be told the truth at unsafe volume. Then Team Nonexistent lit the fuse on “Touch Me,” and the place buckled. This wasn’t a song so much as a courtroom verdict delivered with a left hook. The singer didn’t plead or posture—she declared. Every line came out like a banner snapped open in a riot wind: boundaries aren’t suggestions, and anger—real anger—isn’t shameful. It’s survival with teeth.

Live, “Touch Me” turns threat into triumph. The band locks into a feral, buoyant churn—fast enough to lift bodies, heavy enough to pin the message to the wall. When the hook hits, it’s a communal exhale after years of holding breath. The repetition isn’t cartoonish; it’s ritual. Each shout sharpens the edge, the singer riding the surge with a grin that says I’m still here, I’m louder now, and you don’t get to decide what happens next. This is anger that refuses surrender, anger that dances. The crowd doesn’t flinch—they surge forward, fists up, voices cracked, recognizing the power of a line drawn and defended.

Sharing the night with Dead Pioneers and Potato Pirates, Team Nonexistent didn’t just fit the bill—they redefined the temperature. The Gothic Theatre felt like a pressure chamber where fear gets burned off and joy comes out molten. No irony, no winks—just a room unified by a hard yes to autonomy and a harder no to anyone who thinks otherwise. When “Touch Me” closed, it didn’t leave rubble; it left a crowd taller, buzzing, baptized in the kind of righteous noise that doesn’t ask permission and doesn’t apologize.

Our Story

Wax Trax is a brick & mortar record store that has been in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood for over 41 years. Founded in 1975 by Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, it was sold to Dave Stidman and Duane Davis (pictured at right) in 1978, and Jim and Dannie moved to Chicago to launch the Wax Trax! Record Label. Look for the “!” to tell the two apart.

Since then, Wax Trax has specialized in bringing the best in independent music to Colorado. In the 70s that meant being one of the only stores in Denver importing Punk and New Wave from England. In the 80s and 90s that search for the latest and greatest expanded, eventually establishing one of the widest selections in the city and one of the centers of the local music scene.

“Wax Trax distinguished itself as the center of the universe for a new kind of fan, obsessed with whatever was new and fashion-forward, and the people they hired fit the niche and met that public with a famous attitude,” -- Westword (Nov. 2018)
