There is a group of people who are commenting on my posts about paying my editors. I wanted to share a little bit of context with you all.
I tried working with a new editor on a project in late June. I paid him a deposit and after weeks of no draft (even though I told him my deadline was within two weeks) he told me he had some family members in the hospital. I gave him time and asked him when he would be able to get it done. I didn’t hear from him again for weeks. When he got back in communication with me, he was demanding the remaining payment for the video (without giving me even a draft and knowing that I had to pay another editor to do it at the last minute to meet my deadline with the client). I told him within the time that the other editor was working on it that if he gave it to me, I would pay him. He told me he would have it in the morning. Then more weeks went by with no contact and no draft.
He sent the video to me today. Initial project was in June. He’s demanding payment for this project and wants me to trust him to work on the next project for free after paying for the last project which was two months late and not able to be used. He started threatening me with a viral campaign and calling all of my family, friends, and clients.
I share this because I value the team that works with me on all projects. I do my best to pay everyone that works on a project within a reasonable time frame even if the client hasn’t sent final payment on a project.
I would never just not pay someone for work they did.
I gave this person many chances to complete the project and receive the remaining payment.
