The first thing to know about the increasingly popular cannabinoid called Delta 8 THC is that, unlike CBD, it will get you high.

Getting a firm answer on whether Delta 8 THC is legal in Arizona isn't possible, for now. It's "probably" legal for some state-licensed dispensaries to sell it, as some are doing, but anyone else may risk a criminal charge.

OnPoint Laboratories, a cannabis testing company based in Snowflake, took "full responsibility" for a ma*****na flower recall announced today by the state and defended the affected brands as "clean."

"We continue to investigate and won’t discuss an open investigation," said a state DHS spokesperson.

While there is nothing in place to address federal offenses, anyone with charges including misdemeanors should consider getting their records cleared, as even low-level possession charges can come back to haunt such individuals.

How much THC can you responsibly cram into a single donut?

The Mint Dispensary, the country's first cannabis dispensary with a full-service kitchen, has an answer: 3,000 mg — if the donut weighs six pounds.

"After adult-use recreational sales of ma*****na began in January, the company decided to give its dispensaries facelifts, and the Cannabist location on Price Road and Fifth Street has a whole new look that’s part industrial chic (dark wood beam ceilings, exposed ductwork in sleek black), and part nature retreat (the lobby area is a narrow indoor-outdoor setting with trees, bushes, and a giant window into the Cannabist grow room, where the leaves of more than two dozen adolescent plants flutter in breezes from surrounding fans)."

The Tempe dispensary, open since 2013, just got a facelift.

Cannabis advocates took their protests about the state’s “social equity” dispensary licenses to the Arizona State Capitol on Thursday morning, in a small rally that drew about two dozen people, including representatives from activist groups Arizona NORML and Our Arizona.

“It’s a s**t show. It’s all fu**ed up."

Arizona’s ma*****na sales could exceed $1 billion by 2023 — but don’t take that to the bank.

Ma*****na-related businesses, or MRBs, have historically been shut out of traditional banking. MRBs are profitable, often wildly so, but few banks want to assume the risks that come with providing financial services to an industry that revolves around products that remain federally illegal.

“We did not go into this lightly,” says Brian Ruisinger, president and CEO of Republic Bank of Arizona.

The state published new draft rules for the voter-mandated ma*****na social equity program last week that expand eligibility requirements for Arizona's remaining 26 dispensary licenses.

With Arizona's limited number of dispensary licenses, each winner is nearly guaranteed a long-term fortune — but first they must invest a fortune.

Nicole Stanton has checked many things off what she calls her “list of things to prove to myself”: leaving her small hometown in Utah; becoming an accomplished commercial litigation attorney; having a family; engaging in charity work with her husband, U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton; accepting an important role on the leadership team for the biggest ma*****na-based business in Arizona…

Actually, that last one wasn’t on the original list.

“If you had told me 10 years prior [that I would be working for a cannabis company], I would have just laughed in your face.”

The state's draft rules for social equity in the cannabis industry aren't equitable and would allow multi-state corporations to snap up 26 new dispensary licenses, critics say. State officials want your opinion.

The draft rules by the DHS are "really insulting," says one license seeker.

There’s a world of weed-infused foods around Phoenix — especially confections. Caramels, cakes, cookies, brownies, popcorn, lollipops, chocolate bars, honey, syrups, sodas, and of course gummies line shelves at dispensaries around the Valley. But for those with a plant-based diet, most of those munchies have ingredients besides THC you don't want to consume.

Your best bet is one of the handfuls of brands that produce gummies without gelatin — but there are options beyond gummies, too.

Here are six vegan ma*****na edibles available around town.

For those with plant-based diets, most munchies have ingredients besides THC you don't want to consume.

Firefighters can blow smoke, landscapers can tend their greens, & water department employees can enjoy that hydro. With adult cannabis consumption now legal in Arizona, Valley cities are quietly changing their policies to allow off-hours use by employees.

It may still be worth getting a med card.

Peggy Noonan, founder of the Tucson-based medical ma*****na edibles company COPIA, died this past Saturday.

In 2017, Noonan revealed she'd been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. She lost her battle with the disease April 10.

In the days before medical ma*****na was legalized in Arizona, Noonan was a drug dealer and drug runner between Mexico and the U.S., according to a 2016 Bloomberg report on Cornucopia Health and Wellness, which Noonan started in 2014.

Peggy Noonan founded Cornucopia, later COPIA, in 2014.

A new surge of out-of-state businesses is rushing into the state, looking to take advantage of the massive growth expected in Arizona's post-legalization cannabis industry.

With the passage of recreational ma*****na in Arizona, new cannabis brands are taking on increased importance in the industry.

Anxiety, insomnia, pain relief: There are many reasons Americans increasingly use CBD.

The Food and Drug Administration hasn't formally approved CBD as a treatment for much of anything, though, and it's a no-no for CBD companies to make bold claims in their marketing about what their products are capable of.

That's exactly what Scottsdale-based Cannafyl has been doing, according to the FDA, which recently issued a warning to the company about claims it's been making on its website.

Bold claims!

More than 300,000 patients for the first time on the medical side. On the new recreational side, Arizona dispensaries sell $2.9 million of cannabis products in the first few days of legal rec sales. Take a look at the latest numbers in the Arizona ma*****na industry:

More patients than ever were in the medical ma*****na program in February even as recreational sales grew.
