More than 70 protesters gathered in Pueblo on Saturday following Denver City Council’s 11-2 vote against a Key Lime Air contract with Denver International Airport.
Colorado Newsline reported in October that Key Lime Air conducted deportation flights for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The rejected contract proposed a 1,200 foot expansion for Key Lime Air’s storage equipment at Denver International Airport. Although the Denver council voted against the contract, Key Lime Air still operates out of Denver International Airport and also conducted flights out of Pueblo Memorial Airport in 2025.
Protesters in Pueblo said they wanted to send the message that they do not want Key Lime Air operating out of Pueblo’s airport because of the company’s affiliation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement's deportation flights.
“I am very concerned that the government is using little airports and small towns and making that really the effort of using airports for detention center,” said Cheryl Simas, 70, a protester and Pueblo resident. “They are not focused on criminals in any way. And I don't want my town to be involved in supporting that.”
The City of Pueblo, which operates Pueblo Memorial Airport, did not immediately respond to a request for comment
