This music video was a challenge to light but the team did a phenomenal job. The first thing that had to be done was designing the set to have this moving fabric background. The production designer did a wonderful job of making it work. After that my gaffer made use of the Aputure Nova P300Cs in the studio grid to backlight the fabric. This gave shape and texture to the fabric as well as a little bit of a backlight to the talent. These were set to a neutral white balance. Next we added some highlight hits to the talent to help separate them from the fabric. We added a 750 Joleko to the side with some CTB in it to give another little highlight hit. The key light is an .lighting 600X in a large softbox and also firing through some diffusion. The extra layer diffusion just helps to take away some of the sourceiness that was the result of the softbox. On the fill side we have a large white bounce that helps to lift the shadows so it’s not super contrasty. A big thank you to the great people over at for allowing us to use their space.
