📢 As waterfowl hunters prepare for Louisiana’s upcoming special October black-bellied whistling duck season, LDWF reminds participants that a FREE black-bellied whistling duck permit will be required in addition to all applicable hunting licenses and validations.

💻 LDWF is currently finalizing development of the permit system through the Louisiana Outdoors website (LouisianaOutdoors.gov). Permits will be available soon.

📅 Hunters planning to participate in the special season are encouraged to obtain their permit before the season opens.

More information regarding permit availability will be announced as soon as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates!

Be Safe/Be Wise

🌊 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆!🌊

Today we celebrate the beauty and power of our oceans. It’s also a good opportunity to remind everyone that if you’re heading out for some surf fishing, be mindful that conditions can change quickly along the shoreline.

◾ 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 – be aware of underwater drop-offs, shells, and debris, especially around areas like Elmer’s Island near Caminada Pass.
◾ 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 – strong, narrow channels of water can pull you away from shore quickly, and they can occur at Grand Isle, Elmer’s Island, and any beach with breaking waves.
◾ 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁:
🌊 A channel of choppy, churning water
🌊 Water that looks different in color from surrounding areas
🌊 A steady line of foam, seaweed, or debris moving seaward
🌊 A break in the incoming wave pattern

If you ever get caught in a rip current, don’t fight it. Swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current, then head back in.
