This year’s My City My Health t-shirt is a statement.

Every flower in the design carries meaning:

🌼 Gerbera daisies – Joy and new beginnings

🌹 Roses & camellias – Love, admiration, energy

🌸 Protea – Resilience and transformation

💜 Lilac clusters – Wisdom and dignity

🌸 Cherry blossoms – Renewal and community

At MyCityMyHealth, we take pride in being a Community on a Mission. Our mission is not only to partner with local public health and healthcare organizations, but also to lift up our creative community.

This year’s shirt was created by Des Moines muralist, designer, and illustrator Marissa Hernandez, whose work you’ve likely seen across the city, and you can check out the episode of Coffee Can't Fix Everything where she talked about her art here -> https://youtu.be/vHQy52Ucw9g

These disparities affect us all, even if we don’t see them every day.

Full My City Talks episode with Jazzmine Brooks, MPA, is live on YouTube + audio platforms.

If you want to understand why a community struggles with chronic illness, just take a walk. Too often, access to nutritious food isn’t the issue—it’s the quality, appearance, and education around it. Programs like Double Up Food Bucks are helping, but the deeper challenge is ensuring people have access to foods they want to cook and eat.

Full conversation with Jazzmine Brooks is now live on YouTube + audio platforms.

In our latest My City Talks episode, Jazzmine Brooks shares real truths about food insecurity, culture, and why access to healthy food must also honor choice and tradition. She’ll also be on the Food Insecurity Panel at this year’s My City My Health Conference.
