Mycitymyhealth My City My Health, a series of health equity conferences.

07/28/2025

I sat down with author, speaker, and moderator of this year’s Civic Engagement panel, @\Abena Sankofa Imhotep. We talked about community power, storytelling, and why showing up matters—especially in public health.
Abena shares how civic engagement starts at home, the power of lived experience, and what it means to truly see the people behind the data.
This conversation sets the tone for what’s coming at this year’s My City My Health Conference in Des Moines on November 14.

New My City Talks episode is live!
I sat down with Keesha Ward, MBA Ward, and Jessica Duncan from the Alzheimer's Association Iowa Chapter to talk about early detection, the power of community, and why we need to be having this conversation, especially in Black and rural communities.

Did you know there's now a blood test that can detect Alzheimer’s up to 20 years before symptoms appear?

We also talk about the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Des Moines on Sept. 27 at Principal Park. Join us, raise awareness, and support families who need it.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting Keesha Ward, MBA and Jessica Duncan from the Alzheimer's Association Iowa Chapter on our Live My City Talks Podcast.

We had a meaningful conversation about the impact of dementia here in Iowa, the communities most at risk, preventative brain health, and how we can all take action.

We also discussed the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s happening this September in Des Moines—a powerful opportunity to raise awareness and support families affected across the state.

Grateful to Keesha and Jessica for joining us and sharing their insights.
The episode will be out soon—stay tuned!
