10/6/26 yesterday’s hunt at the Open Gate

We hadn’t hunted this spot in a while, but it’s one of the best views on the farm. We were originally going to hang stands on the northeast side of the plot, but we couldn’t find a good tree, so we ended up going to plan B: sit in the stands that are already there and risk our sent blowing across the gate opening.

Didn’t and up being a problem as we saw two does and neither walked through that area. Quiet night, deer-wise, but we saw a whole bunch of turkeys, two species of cats, a very nosy squirrel, and a partridge* in a pear tree** (*crow in an **oak tree)

Wind tonight looks like it’s gonna set up to go back after Earl, so we will be out there again!

Did I mention admire the view?

A “bad” day in the blind is better than a good day stuck inside. We didn’t see anything but still enjoyed the beautiful evening. Amos had success connecting with a doe on public land and the crew’s first Iowa bow tag has been filled!

More than just whitetails on the Dream Farm! This timber rattler was not too pleased when he got ran over by the four wheeler earlier today. He was stretched across the trail and lunged at the tire before curling up and rattling a warning.

Good reminder to be extra careful where you’re stepping for the next month or so until they go into hibernation (mid October in northeast Iowa).

Thank you to everyone who submitted questions and I apologize for the delay on getting this reel posted! There were tons of good ones so there will be a few more videos coming too.
