With the new school year starting, the streaming of KDPS radio has switched back to all older rock and pop hits during the week. Kids Radio Mania airs during the daytime on the weekends.

There is no update yet on the sale of the station and a new teacher will be taking over the broadcast program at Central Campus this fall. The current silent status for 88.1 FM is approved through Nov. 27th. We will try to keep you posted on any updates.

Big news for KDPS radio alumni and fans--starting June 5th the station will no longer be broadcasting on 88.1 FM in Des Moines. The FCC has approved the Des Moines Public Schools' request to "go silent," which means DMPS keeps the license for now but the station is allowed to not be on the air.

According to the FCC filing, the DMPS administration is planning on selling the radio frequency so the station may never be back on the air again as KDPS. No specifics for the station's future are available but it is off the air until at least the fall. The automated KDPS STREAM WILL CONTINUE for now at KDPScentral.streamon.fm, including Kids Radio Mania on the weekends.

YouTube turned 20 yesterday and this report from back then is about Grand View being one of the first to teach it. Now it seems hilariously absurd that people didn’t know how to use it. We’ve even posted some KDPS stuff to YouTube, adding visual elements.

With graduation coming soon we mark the 10th anniversary of Grand View moving the radio station and entire communication department from its great Cowles Communication building. April of 2015 was the last radio broadcast from these studios after almost 30 years there, moving to the student center before the college shut down the broadcast program.

Hard to believe it was 15 years ago this group of 2010 Grand View seniors went through their professional interviews in the TV studio for Career Seminar class. Most of them experienced working as DJs on KDPS and the guy in the middle is Mark Wright, who was our radio program director.

Remenber the old “DJ of the Month Award” that Mr. W handed out? Jake Thompson and Jeff Fitzgerald certainly do, because they had a photo taken to commemorate it! This was just one month before Mr. Winzenburg had to leave the college to have his leg cancer operated on, seven years ago this week.
