Iowa Republicans today approved a 17-member Iowa Caucus Review Committee

The committee will be chaired by Republican Party of Iowa Co-Chair Bill Schickel. Iowa Secretary of State Deputy of Elections Mary Mosiman will be the committee co-chair.

After years of criticism, Republican Party officials turned over the counting to media organizations in 1988. Newspapers and television networks declined to continue that arrangement after 2004, citing the expense, and the GOP has been on its own for two cycles now.

In his response to the certified results of the 2012 Iowa caucuses, presidential candidate Mitt Romney thanks party officials, recognizes his GOP opponent’s “strong performance” and zeroes in on the Democrat in the White House.

Romney was declared the winner of the Jan. 3 caucuses over two weeks ago, but Iowa GOP officials say the certified results, although incomplete, give second-place finisher Rick Sa****um a 34-vote advantage.

It's a tie for the ages. There are too many holes in the certified totals from the Iowa caucuses to know for certain who won, but Rick Sa****um wound up with a 34-vote advantage.

Iowa counties have until close of business on Wednesday to get their official paperwork with their caucus results to the Republican Party of Iowa, and the certification process should wrap up by the end of this week, party officials said today.
