WEEKEND FORECAST OF DANGEROUSLY LOW TEMPS ACTIVATES EXTREME TEMPERATURE PLAN

The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will be activated at noon today, and will remain active until noon Monday.

Wind chills tonight will be as low as 0 degrees - Saturday night -20 degrees, and Sunday -1 degree.

Activation of the plan includes:

* Weather amnesty at area homeless shelters
* Activation of warming centers
* Free transportation to these locations on DART buses

⚠️❄️ SNOW ORDINANCE UPDATE: Residential plowing will start at 10 p.m. tonight (Saturday) and parking will NOT be allowed on neighborhood streets until they are fully cleared from curb to curb.

Our Day Shift drivers have worked hard all day as the snow kept falling to keep our Snow Routes clear. Now, with snowfall tapering off, our Night Shift will make their final passes clearing our busiest roads before shifting all their focus to neighborhoods.

The switch from Snow Routes to Residential Districts also starts the 48-hour window to clear your sidewalks. If you are able to help your neighbors who are elderly or living with disabilities, please do so. Those residents can also call 2-1-1 or visit 211iowa.org for available snow removal services.

Please continue to use your winter driving skills by taking it slow and giving yourself plenty of space between you and other vehicles, including our plows! Stay safe and stay warm!
