A Niles man was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing and killing his estranged girlfriend from Des Plaines in Schaumburg.

A Niles man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his estranged girlfriend Tuesday morning (Dec. 16) in Schaumburg, police said.

As North Maine Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a house fire at 9125 Barberry Ln. in unincorporated Des Plaines Tuesday (Dec. 16), crews found one side of the duplex ablaze with flames coming from a second-floor window.

Police in Niles have opened a death investigation after an unresponsive person was found deceased inside a car partially covered by snow on Friday morning (Dec. 12) in the parking lot of a business.

Niles Mayor George Alpogianis and village officials reviewed a draft agreement sent from Pace Suburban Bus officials on Monday (Dec. 8) that could end the village’s suspension of the Niles Free Bus service that took place in September.
