Niles village trustees approved changes to the Gross Pointe Touhy TIF last night, which makes way for a new corporate HQ to move to Niles from Lincolnwood.

The Niles Village trustees approved three ordinances at their Tuesday, June 23 meeting to expand the Gross Pointe Touhy Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, clearing the way for a new corporate headquarters.

Niles has always embraced public art, although they have a defined financial policy for public art, they do not have a written policy regarding murals. The Arts and Culture Advisory Council is working to correct that.

Niles Public Arts & Culture Advisory Council members discussed creating a formal policy for murals in the village at their meeting on June 16. The issue will be discussed again at the council's next meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Niles Village Hall.

More than 2 years after the old Journal & Topics Newspapers building was sold, demolition began yesterday. Journal & Topics Media Group still publishes the same papers, now out of a different office. Photos by Igor Studenkov

Demolition has started on the former Journal & Topics Media Group offices at 622 Graceland Ave. in downtown Des Plaines, more than two years since the local newspaper publisher sold the property to a developer.

Niles firefighters were joined by firefighters from six other communities on Sunday for a minor kitchen fire that briefly shut down part of Milwaukee Avenue at Oakton Street.

Southbound Milwaukee Avenue in Niles was shut down for less than an hour Sunday (June 21) after a kitchen fire broke out in a second-floor apartment.

While not much is happening publicly at Golf Mill regarding its redevelopment, the Niles Historical Society and Cultural Center has opened a new exhibit exploring the long history of the Golf Mill Shopping Center.

A new 7 Brew broke ground along Golf Road near Milwaukee. Niles Mayor George Alpogianis said he is very happy Niles will have the first to open in the near Northwest Suburbs. Other 7 Bew locations are also planned in Des Plaines and Mount Prospect.

Niles officials caught a break in the rain Thursday (June 11) to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 7 Brew Coffee drive-thru at 8510 W. Golf Road.

Niles Pride held their 4th annual Rainbow Walk at Kirk Lane Park and through the neighborhood. Here is our coverage of the event. Guests came from Glenview, Des Plaines, and Chicago. Speakers included Niles Mayor George Alpogianis.

Nearly 80 people gathered at Kirk Lane Park on Saturday for the Niles Pride Rainbow Walk, a one-mile march through neighborhood sidewalks to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
