Well, folks, sorry for the silence. It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I'll be starting on the video from Palo Pinto Mountains tomorrow, and I hope to get it up this weekend. I will also start getting things ready for the upcoming Mineral Wells trip in a couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek at the thumbnail for the new video.

HTC: Channels To Check Out! - Firebox Stove

Have you ever thought, "Man, I'd love to take my goats camping with me!" Can't say I ever have, but this guy does it regularly. Meet Steve, creator of the Firebox Stove.

Not only has this man created a handy system for backpack cooking, but he also regularly posts videos of himself taking his dogs and goats on wilderness trips.

Steve's videos have an old-school feel, and the fact that he uses his goats to transport his gear deep into the wild adds a unique element to his channel. Each video also lets Steve test new products he's come up with, but don't think of it as just advertising, because the camping fun is front and center.

"I go to amazing wilderness places, sometimes with my family, other times with my animal companions Ash, Juni, Bill and Levi. My love for the outdoors started nearly 40 years ago. I had an awesome scout master who took us to epic high country destinations. I fell in love with being a part of the wil...

Well, day two is nearly over. It was a day filled with hiking and meeting new folks.

That's the thing about going camping: you get to your site, set up, and then dread tearing it all down before loading back up.

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is an amazing park, and still has the new car smell, so to speak. Most of the parks I've visited have been around for nearly a century, so it's been interesting to see if the youngsters can keep up with the old timers of the CCC. I think they did a bang up job. The fact this place is so close to home is pretty cool too. This is definitely a great treasure for the area.

See you guys next month at Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway!

HTC: Friday Update!

Well, it's been a wonderful day here at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park. I got here with time to spare and so I went and checked out the fishing area. Sadly, I didn't do any fishing, but I did hike around the area a bit.

After getting camp set up, I hung around and chilled for a bit. Just a suggestion: if you decide to camp in the Painted Stick Campground, either don't bring much, or try and get a spot close to the parking lot.

Otherwise, it was a great day.

HTC: Friday Update!

It's been a mostly quiet week, folks, but I did post a new update video last Friday. Link below.

Next week is the trip to Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, and I can't wait to share that with you guys. Otherwise, I wish you all a good weekend and week.

It's been a while since I did a review video, and I was really excited to share a bit of info on some new gear. As usual, there were a few technical difficul...

HTC: Channels To Check Out - Corporals Corner

I'm a bit late with this one, folks. I meant to put it out yesterday, but it's okay.

Corporal Shawn Kelly is a former US Marine who uses his military experience and passion for the outdoors to share tips, tricks, and hacks for camping and outdoor survival.

I've been watching The Corporal for a few years now, and he is very knowledgeable without being arrogant. His content is insightful, fun to watch, and despite his seemingly no-nonsense personality, the man himself is just funny.

I highly recommend giving Shawn's channel a watch.

Welcome to Corporals Corner. My channel combines Bushcraft, Survival and the Love of the Outdoors all into one. I deliver No B.S. no Fluff videos and create a family friendly environment where we can learn together. These videos will take you through the basic survival Priorities (Shelter, Fire, Wat...

HTC: Friday Update.

It's been an eventful week at Hog Town Camping! As mentioned a few days ago, the opening of Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is this weekend, but it will be a couple of weeks before I make it over there.

The website is coming along pretty well. I've finished all the trip pages, and they are live. I've got several gear review pages posted, and it looks like there will be plenty more of those to come.

This weekend, I'll be filming a short video review of a few new pieces of gear I've recently acquired, so be on the lookout for that!

Thanks to everyone for all of your support!

Once more, here's the website:

HTC: Channels to Check Out - Wild Homestead

So... It's been a good while since I've done one of these posts, so I figured it's time to start 'em back up.

As a YouTuber, I think it's important to show support for other creators, and one of the folks I've been watching recently is James Alofs.

James has a channel called Wild Homestead that chronicles his journey to build a home in the Canadian wilderness. He started the channel in November 2023 and typically posts a video every week. While technically not a camping channel, I think it still has appeal for those who, like me, enjoy watching content about wilderness survival.

James starts his journey on a piece of property that has absolutely no structures, and in the two-plus years since beginning, he has built a cabin, a wood shed, an ATV garage, and a sauna, with plans for a larger cabin on the horizon.

Along the way, he has also added a dog named Clovis to his journey, and watching this former city guy carve a home out of the wilderness with his own hands is inspiring. It also helps that the dude is a bit of a goofball, with his catchphrase being "Ooga Booga!"

Overall, James's videos are entertaining, and the way he films everything with a few cameras and a drone is pretty cool in itself. So give his channel a look.

I left the big city to build an off-grid homestead on 40-acres of wilderness in Canada 🌲🏠🐺 My name is James Alofs and I am a big city human - having grown up in Toronto and spent 10+ years in Los Angeles and Beijing. I am a fish out of water in the wilderness. I prepared for this journey by...

Quick update!

They be some sneaky folks at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park! Just happened to see a post earlier about it opening on March 1st, and sure enough it's legit, so needless to say, March 13 - 15 is booked! Been waiting a long time for this one, and definitely wasn't expecting it until later in the year. Stay tuned for the video.

Quick update.

I have spent the last few days working on the new website. All of the trip pages are finished and live. They have trip summaries, campsite reviews, and other info I wanted to share, along with links to the YouTube videos. Next, I'll work on the gear section and maybe a fishing section down the road, but we'll see. The link to the website is now in my bio.

I also went ahead and uploaded the full version of the Possum Kingdom video to YouTube, since it was previously on Rumble only. Check it out.

Welcome to my lazy Halloween weekend at Possum Kingdom State Park! These things never turn out how I expect. Returning to the scene of one of my least favorit...
