The radio station, which went on the air in 2005, is located in midtown Detroit, inside the Detroit School of Arts, a public high school training young people for careers in performing, visual and media arts.
90.9 FM broadcasts classical music from 5 am to 7 pm each day and jazz overnight. Dave Wagner is the program director and on-air host during morning and afternoon drive time, while Chris Felcyn hosts middays.

“Music Honoring Black History Month with the MSU Wind Symphony” took place last Sunday at the DSA Detroit School Of Arts High School. The show featured music honoring #BlackHistoryMonth with guest conductor and Detroit's own Damien Crutcher, an MSU alumnus and arts leader. Crutcher shared the stage with several renowned guest composers.
Bringing the event to an even broader audience, following DPTV’s livestream of the concert, 90.9 WRCJ joins the partnership with its own Sunday, February 13, 12pm encore broadcast. 90.9 WRCJ’s Dave Wagner and Cecelia Sharpe will host the show, including the voices of guest conductor Damien Crutcher and Will H. and Jauron P., students from the Detroit School of Arts, will share their reflections on the event.
Plus, 90.9 WRCJ partner stations from across Michigan to the West Coast will include the performance in their broadcast plans. From Detroit to Interlochen, Mt Pleasant to Los Angeles – and anywhere on wrcjfm.org - be sure to listen in for this exciting concert!
I loved the music, The Lark in the Clear Air~
I remember when you played it on WQRS way back...I still have the CD, featuring Geraldine O'Grady on violin. Beautiful!
Ahead of tomorrow's Sphinx Organization's 25th annual Competition Concert, 90.9 WRCJ's Cecelia Sharpe speaks with Sphinx Co-Founder Afa Dworkin.
Check it out! And join us for the livestream concert this Saturday 7p ET on our page.
David Wagner, last night during your drive-time elixir, I had a really lovely moment with my young son in the car where he told me that listening to Beethoven's Symphony 7 felt like a "dance-party in his body" ! I hope that was what Beethoven had in mind there when composing it....🙂 We ended the car-ride in the darkness of the garage finishing out the piece.
It was such a nice centering moment after a long day of school and work..
Curious if you and the team have suggestions for other musical appreciation questions for young kids, or how other listeners share the listening experience with children/grandchildren!
