“The Shop” Paramita Sound - October 25th 2014 - January 29th

“At 1417 Van D**e, Paramita Sound wasn’t just a record store —it was something raw, something real. It sat at the heart of a neighborhood moving in the opposite direction yet became the pulse of a new era in Detroit’s underground music scene. It was for those who craved more than what was already out there. Free in every sense, it became a sandbox for local artists and music lovers— a haven for those who hadn’t yet found a place to call home: the misfits, the visionaries, the world builders, the risk-takers. Our humble beginnings turned friends into family and a shop into a movement. For those lucky enough to have been there, they’ll tell you: it was fu***ng cool.”

“A collective expression of exploring spaces inspired by feng shui. Away from the concrete jungle in Detroit, the artist focus on subjects and landscapes from around the US to display the vibrant and electrifying feelings expressed by the land.

Just as both nature and human life require the strategic transfer of reciprocal energy from one form to another, the artist’s photographs share a similiar reciprocal dynamic, a generous understanding of in which the distinction between practicing observation and performance is important in the sustainability of environments. Resulting in a fruitful exchange between the two”

“Eyes Won’t Lie explores a spectrum of communication and dimensions of visual communication. Emotions are three dimensional. They require body language, a tone of voice and eye contact. Direct gaze is often associated with confidence, interest and attraction. In many ways, eyes along with body language can transmute our present state of being. You can experience the spectrum of feeling and more though the language of eyes. Across many cultures, the eyes are considered the windows to the soul.

The Fact that our eyes make it hard to lie, to conceal our focus of attention or hide our emotional state of being shows the eyes are a favored form of communication. Eyes Won’t Lie calls for an examination of this form of communication.”
