Rest in peace to Peabo Bryson, an immensely talented artist whose voice was a constant, welcome presence for many of us growing up, from Disney classics to those unforgettable Body & Soul commercials.

Across decades of R&B and adult contemporary music, Bryson helped define the modern ballad alongside some of the genre’s most memorable duets and love songs. He will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace to Harlem’s own Rob Base. Together with the late, great DJ E-Z Rock, he made some absolute classics. My wife and I came out to “It Takes Two” at our wedding because it was so ubiquitous and universally beloved, the perfect party track.

Let’s take a moment to show respect for this hip-hop pioneer. Gone too soon.

Philly icon Patti LaBelle performs a set of classics during this 2022 Tiny Desk appearance. More than 80 years old here, yet still commanding the room with the same power and presence that defined generations of soul and R&B.

With a career spanning seven decades, “The Godmother of Soul” remains one of the most influential vocalists in modern music, with her work continually covered, referenced and sampled across genres.

Shalamar performing “A Night To Remember” live on The Tube UK in 1982. Written and produced by The Sylvers, the record became one of the group’s signature crossover R&B hits of the early 80s. The late Jermaine Stewart can also be seen here on backing vocals prior to his solo success.

Featuring Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel, and Howard Hewett, this became Shalamar’s most commercially successful lineup, producing five gold-certified albums before eventually disbanding.
