General information

Our current project is a film called 5 Before 5, a humorous journey into the meanings of trust, love, and living in the moment. Lucky, a bullheaded rugby player with a fierce independent streak, refuses to alter his lifestyle after receiving a rare chronic diagnosis. But when he meets Denique, spunky and vibrant with her own share of complex baggage, the two set out on a winding adventure to discover what it means to live "5 Before 5." Our goal is to address issues of health inequity through Lucky's sickness and HIV/AIDS awareness through Denique's life. Additionally, we hope to create conversation around race and gender through their interracial relationship and to challenge the youth of today to stray from reckless behavior with respect to their health and wealth. This connects with the ancient Arabic proverb that was an inspiration to the theme of the film: "Take advantage of 5 things before 5 other things that will surely follow: your youth before old age, your health before sickness, your wealth before poverty, your time before busyness, and your life before death."
