NCCU North Cass Community Union - Meetings are held monthly on the first Thursday at 7:00pm at 4263 Second Ave. (Basement Unit)

If you live in Midtown, Woodbridge, or any Detroit neighborhood and would like to get involved with the NCCU please join! Our goal is to give back to our community, and we're open to all ideas for fundraising and of course, ways to spend the funds. Think: more streetlights, community potlucks, community messageboards, food co-ops, clothing swaps, anything fun and anything that can bring us togethe

r as a community! In 2011::: we have supported the Fourth Street Farm financially as well as provided volunteers and community tools. We have donated money to the now-closed Burton Theater. In the past we have:
-Funded environmental litigation against the Detroit Trash Incinerator.
-Provided music scholarships for neighborhood children.
-Supported neighborhood soup kitchens.
-Covered medical expenses for locked-out newspaper employees who had insurance benefits cut off.
-Maintained the garden park at 4753 2nd Avenue.
-Paid to have snow plowed from alleys in the winter and trash picked up from streets in the summer. The NCCU is always looking for neighborhood projects invest in. If you have an idea that will better the neighborhood, please come to meetings! The NCCU will resume meeting on Thursdays at 730 after the Dally.

If you noticed a strong odor of garbage in the Midtown area, it could possibly be coming from the Detroit incinerator (I-75 and I-94).

If you smell an odor anywhere, call the 24 hour Pollution Emergency Alert System (PEAS) at 1-800-292-4706 to file a complaint with the Air Quality Control Bureau.

You can call that number on the weekend.

Or call Inspector John Lamb at 313-456-4683 weekdays.
