'Til We See The Sky

https://www.tilweseethesky.com/

As we all know, Detroit and it’s primarily Black residents, were hit disproportionately hard with the initial wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It felt like another hard hit to a city that has seen more than it’s share of injustices. In spite of it all however, the people of Detroit rise up. They are incredible, hopeful, beautiful, strong, and powerful. Our neighbors shared with us a sense of community, optimism and pride for this city that would not be silenced by this or any of the other adversaries. As filmmakers, we recognized how powerful that message might be for those who needed a glimmer of hope, and sought to share it.

In the midst of the editing process, the Black Lives Matter movement swept across the globe, bringing an even brighter light to the conversation. We broadened our message beyond the pandemic to speak more to all the injustices Black Americans face as whole, and how the city of Detroit embraced the movement and demanded change and justice. Our hope is that this film might inspire a sense of togetherness and faith that we could come out on the other side of this pandemic moving towards a world that is better, more just, and more equal than the one we left behind.

Huge thanks to everyone involved, to all of our neighbors and friends, and specifically to Producer Bre-Ann White, and Writer Mic Phelps for guiding us in documenting this story.

Global Spine Outreach - "Colombia"

We love fostering an environment for collaboration and when that collaboration can turn into something life-changing, the reasons for what we do and why become even more clear. Last year, our friends Nico Poalillo and Jesse Barron went to Cali, Colombia to document a team of US volunteer surgeons who travel to highly impoverished and dangerous parts of the country to perform life-saving surgeries on children suffering from aggressive spinal deformities. We are honored to have been a part of this project with such a caring and talented group of people.

Filmsupply is hosting licensable footage from the project and all the proceeds will be donated to the children and families in need. Get over there and grab some clips!

Hiatus Staff

To us, Hiatus translates to a fresh approach: stepping back, taking a pause, reevaluating and updating the norm – specifically to the post-production process. We exist, not to change an industry, but to provide an alternative way of approaching projects within film and digital media. Our goal is to sustain a space that enables artists, creatives, producers - anyone - to do their best work.

We are committed to the craft of editing as a part of the storytelling process. Hiatus incorporates a mix of talented in-house and freelance editors, composers, colorists, designers, and visual effects artists. We invite you into our home to create with us. Stop by anytime and stay awhile.
