Genesis 1:14 tells us that one of God's purposes for creating heavenly objects is to give us signs: "God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. AND LET THEM BE FOR SIGNS and for seasons, and for days and years.'"
The Gospel of Luke 21:25-28 points to celestial signs before the end of days: "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near."

'THE FALL OF THE WICKED': Meanwhile, some Jews see real symbolism behind celestial events, like blood moons. An Orthodox Jewish group Chabad once wrote the following about the prophecy in Joel 2:30-32:
"There is much discussion in the commentaries about the meaning of this prophecy. Many explain it to be allegorical. However, the biblical commentator Rabbi David Kimchi (known as the RaDaK, 1160–1235) explains that when there is a total eclipse, the moon appears dark; however, when it is only partially covered, it appears red like blood, symbolizing the fall of the wicked."
