to Motown arranger, trombonist, composer, and producer Paul Riser!

Although his true musical loves were primarily classical and jazz, his melodic and creative arrangements helped to turn Motown songs such as "My Girl," "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" into multilayered musically nuanced classics.

As a songwriter, he had a hand in writing "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" by Jimmy Ruffin, "6 By 6" by Earl Van D**e & The Motown Brass, "I Don't Know Why" by Stevie Wonder, and the majority of the "Strung Out" LP by Gordon Staples and the String Thing.

Paul Riser is a beloved and constant friend of Motown Museum, devoted to carrying on the Motown legacy while giving back to the next generation of talent - coaching summer campers, speaking on discussion panels, donating to the Museum's collections, and providing wisdom for singers in the Motown Museum AMPLIFY vocal competition and Hitsville NEXT program participants. Join us in celebrating a musical genius - Happy Birthday Paul Riser!

Today, Motown Museum celebrates the birthday of Michael Jackson - the King of Pop who started his reign with Motown as a member of the Jackson 5.

From sessions in Detroit produced by Bobby Taylor ("Who's Loving You") and California-captured classics led by The Corporation ("I Want You Back"), to solo singles ("Got to Be There"), disco classics ("Dancing Machine"), and Saturday morning cartoons, Michael Jackson and his brothers helped shape the pop culture of the late 60s and early 70s.

Through his role as the Scarecrow in the Motown Productions film The Wiz and his iconic Moonwalk debut on the Motown 25 television special, Michael's talents helped him move effortlessly between the studio and the screen as he forged his solo career into the 80s and beyond. To this day, visitors at Motown Museum are excited to see the iconic hat and glove he donated, celebrating his enduring image and his musical roots within Motown's "Sound of Young America."
