Progress is the name of the game and not everything sticks around forever, whether it's a person, a restaurant, or an attraction. That doesn't mean we haven't lost something that should have stuck around once it disappears. Here are 25 things Detroit once had that it no longer does — and that we t...

NEW PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER EARNING 5-STAR REVIEWS Award-winning physician-author Bernard Leo Remakus’ latest publication is a psychological thriller, titled The Paraclete. The novel’s main character is Father Paul Thielemans, a renowned Catholic theologian. Several days after Thielemans meets a parish priest and 13-year-old altar boy at a church in San Diego, the altar boy dresses in the vestments he wears while serving Mass and jumps to his death from the top of the Coronado Bridge. When Thielemans learns about the su***de and discovers the boy killed himself to avoid any further sexual abuse by his parish priest, the theologian blames himself for not having recognized their pedophilic relationship. Distraught, Thielemans seeks the advice of an expert on pe******ia, an elderly priest who has spent his entire life working as a paraclete, or advocate of impaired priests. Aided by a better understanding of sexual predators in the priesthood and the accidental discovery of a naturally-occurring seed that contains a poison more lethal than ricin, the theologian returns to San Diego and visits the parish priest. Thielemans’ visit sets off a veritable epidemic of unexplained deaths among pedophilic priests in America. Discovering a pattern to the unexpected deaths and suspecting the theologian is a serial killer, a veteran FBI special agent, whose husband was sexually abused by a priest as a child, finds herself in the middle of a moral dilemma. Watching from the sideline is a beautiful nun who is having a love affair with the theologian. To date, The Paraclete has received five-star reviews from prominent authors. Julie Davey, Professor Emeritus of Journalism at Fullerton College, writes: “In his latest, most powerful and timely book, The Paraclete, Bernard Leo Remakus completely captures, transports and educates the reader both psychologically and globally into the Catholic Church's leadership and history. Masterfully written, this is Dr. Remakus’ greatest novel, EVER! It is a true masterpiece.” Author Tammy Ruggles states: “The Paraclete by Bernard Leo Remakus is a chilling, engrossing psychological thriller that won't let you go once you start reading. The writing is deliberate, convincing, and quite an immersive read, with a few surprises thrown in. The treatment of the provocative subject matter is scathing without being exploitative or maudlin. Fans of Primal Fear, Doubt, and Spotlight will love this unnerving but satisfying page-burner.” Author Romauld Dzemo adds: “The Paraclete by Bernard Leo Remakus is a spellbinding psychological thriller with strong and well-developed religious themes. Remakus is a gifted storyteller and the author has the gift of creating characters that instantly capture the sympathy of readers, putting them in dilemmas that make the story even more captivating. This novel is a page-turner.” The Paraclete is Dr. Remakus’ fifth novel. His earlier medical novel, The Lame Duck, won a bronze medal in the 2019 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards. Dr. Remakus has also published three medical books and one screenplay, and has authored over 200 articles that have been published in medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and Medical Economics. From 1999 to 2012, he was the featured columnist and member of the editorial advisory board of Internal Medicine World Report. His column in that publication was one of the longest-running and most widely-read physician-written columns in America. The Paraclete is now available as a hardcover, paperback, and ebook on the amazon.com and Barnes and Noble websites: https://www.amazon.com/Paraclete-Bernard-Leo-Remakus/dp/B08XX7Q9GX/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=remakus&qid=1615449198&s=books&sr=1-1.
“Masterpiece of Marble” In my opinion this is one the most beautiful pieces of architecture in Detroit. This Moment In Time captures the old Wayne County buildings stately 247’ tall tower, graced with its bronze sculptures on a beautiful winters night. With the cornerstone being laid in 1897 and construction being completed in 1902, this is most certainly a stunning piece of yesteryear! Now more than a hundred years later she and the great city she stands in has stood the test of time. Detroit is as beautiful as ever and she is a gem! 💔JUSTICE FOR SKYE💔 Please READ Skye's story below and then call Mayor Duggan's office at 313-224-3400 to demand JUSTICE FOR SKYE. We want to address a situation that occurred yesterday afternoon in which Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC) was called to a scene where a 10 year old blind senior dog (Skye) had been severely attacked by another resident dog and was in urgent need of medical care. No one was home at the time of the attack as the dogs' owner was out of town. These dogs had been living out in the freezing cold temperatures and being fed by a neighbor who saw the attack and intervened while another neighbor called animal control for help. When DACC arrived, rather than take Skye in for medical care, they decided to leave her laying in the snow injured and bleeding in the same yard with the dog that had attacked her. I repeat...they left her dying, bleeding and freezing in the snow, in a backyard with the dog that had attacked her. One of the witnesses even contacted Skye's owner who verbally agreed to turn her over for care, but yet DACC still refused to take her or even remove the dog that had attacked her. Thankfully the neighbor who called DACC began reaching out for assistance and as soon as we were contacted we rushed Skye to an emergency veterinary hospital for care, but sadly while receiving medical care (now 5 hours after initially being attacked) Skye went into cardiac arrest and could not be resuscitated. Last night we contacted a supervisor from DACC, by email, as well as the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. We have yet to hear anything from DACC, but thank you to the prosecutor's office who responded and will be checking on the remaining dog at the property. Not only was Skye severely and critically injured, she was extremely emaciated with a body score of 2. On behalf of Skye we are asking that everyone please contact Mayor Duggan's office at 313-224-3400 to ask why DACC left a critically injured, bleeding, blind senior dog laying in the snow rather than taking her in for care. Additionally...if you are a resident of Detroit who has not received an adequate or prompt response from Detroit Animal Care and Control regarding a dog left out on a chain in this weather without proper shelter please inbox us or you can email any information to [email protected]. We will be providing this information to the Mayor's office.
