DeWitt, Iowa — On Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 2305 hours, the DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of 4th Street in DeWitt. DeWitt Fire responded with four apparatus for an initial response of eighteen personnel.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a single story residential structure fully involved with heavy fire and smoke conditions and were advised that one subject was possibly still inside. Due to the heavy involvement of the structure, crews initiated a defensive attack utilizing handlines and the department’s aerial apparatus. Once the fire was brought under control, one subject was located inside the residence.
The DeWitt Fire Department was assisted by the DeWitt Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, MercyOne Genesis DeWitt Ambulance, Clinton County Communications, and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews remained on scene until approximately 0530 hours Saturday, November 8.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from the DeWitt Fire Department. Any additional information related to this incident will be released by the State Fire Marshal.
