This is the 54th year that Kiwanis Club of Walnut Valley has presented scholarships and recognition awards to high school graduating seniors in the Walnut Valley, Pomona, and Rowland Unified School Districts. Named in honor of our former member Ed Chapman, recognition awards are presented to several outstanding students and a $1,000.00 scholarship is awarded to one student as chosen by school administrators.

On May 26, 2023, Diamond Ranch High School held their Awards Ceremony and our member, Mr. Henry Cowles, presented awards to the following students: Miss Micah Santos, Service; Miss Dallas McElrath, Leadership; Miss Helen Tran, Social Science and Mathematics; Mr. Mario Portillo, Science; and Mr. Diego Cruz, Video/ Media Production. The $1,000.00 scholarship was awarded to Diego Cruz for his outstanding accomplishments in the subject area.

Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members, and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club of Walnut Valley was chartered to serve the communities of Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights, and Walnut. The 12th Annual Golfing “Fore” the Kids event by Diamond Bar Community Foundation is happening at the beautiful Western Hills Country Club. Check-in is 7:30 a.m. and shotgun start is at 10:00 a.m. Event includes lunch, silent auction and lots of golf. Individuals, groups and businesses are all welcome to come play and support the community.

The tournament is a major fundraiser for youth projects and activities in Diamond Bar. The area has over 6,000 children playing in youth sports programs during the year.

The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) has a firm position in Black History. One special fact more people should know is NCNW’s former President Dorothy Height was the often overlooked chief organizer for the famous March On Washington.
