Placerville’s historic Chinatown, once located near present-day Benham Park, is being highlighted in an extended exhibit at the Fountain & Tallman Museum through June 6, 2026. The exhibit explores the rise and decline of El Dorado County’s Chinese communities during and after the Gold Rush era. Rare artifacts, photographs, and personal histories help document a neighborhood largely erased by fire, discrimination, and redevelopment. Historians say the exhibit offers an important opportunity to preserve and recognize the contributions of Chinese immigrants to local history.

The City of Placerville is proposing substantial increases to aquatics and recreation fees effective June 27, 2026. Public swim admission, season passes and lap swim fees would rise significantly under the new Community Services Department fee schedule. Some costs, including adult lap swim drop-in rates, would more than double compared to current pricing. City officials say the proposal is intended to support ongoing recreation and aquatics operations.
