If your “brand strategy” is just your last name + a roof in the logo, you’re already starting at a disadvantage.

Brand is not just your logo. It’s:
How your trucks look
How your people act
The emotion your company creates for customers and employees

In this episode, we talk about why brand is a key part of your foundation, not an afterthought once everything else is built.

What's the difference between a logo and a brand?

In our latest episode with Skagit Plumbing's Mark and Teresa Summers, Mark said something that stopped me in my tracks:
"You gave us a logo. We gave you a brand."
No—it was the other way around. And that's the point.

A logo is a mark. A brand is your:
Foundation for growth
Rally point for your team
Connection to your community
Identity in the marketplace

As Mark shared, "A brand is the most important thing you can do. It's your foundation. Without a strong foundation, it's just a matter of time before it all comes crumbling down."

For service industry professionals wondering if branding is worth the investment—this conversation will answer that question.

The mindset shift from “roofer/tech” to entrepreneur
Why “numbers don’t lie” no matter what you sell

“I’m doing $1M now. I want to do $5M next year.”
Cool.
But are you making money at one?
If you’re not profitable now, you won’t magically be profitable at five. You’ll just lose money faster.

In this episode, Dave The Roofer Coach walks through:
Lifestyle business vs “be the biggest guy in town”
Why top‑line goals without profit are dangerous
How to get honest about what you actually want from your business

Your business is as simple – and as fragile – as a 3‑legged stool.
You have to sell work.
You have to do work.
You have to keep score.

If one of those legs is weak, the whole thing tips.

In Episode 197, Dave (The Roofer Coach) and I walk through how to diagnose which leg is the problem and what to do about it.

In this episode, Dave (The Roofer Coach) explains that every contracting business rests on three legs:
Sell Work – marketing, sales, lead generation
Do Work – operations, install, service, capacity
Keep Score – pricing, accounting, cash flow, profitability

Most owners are strong in one and weak in at least one of the others. That’s where the wobble comes from.

Swipe through and score yourself on each leg.

Then pick the weakest leg and make a plan to shore it up before you chase more revenue.
