Governor Greg Abbott today directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources ahead of excessive rainfall that could lead to flash flooding in the Panhandle through the end of the week.

"With heavy rainfall expected to hit the Panhandle this week, the State of Texas stands ready to deploy all resources needed in preparation for potential flooding,” said Governor Abbott. "Texans are urged to heed the guidance from state and local officials and monitor local forecasts to avoid driving into flooded areas. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown.”

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms in the Panhandle could lead to flash flooding across the Northwest Texas region heading into the weekend. Texans are urged to monitor local forecast information.

Castro County Hospital District
Launches Community-Wide Survey
The Castro County Hospital District (CCHD) has officially launched a survey aimed at gathering valuable feedback from residents in Dimmitt, Hart, Nazareth, and surrounding areas. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure local healthcare services continue to evolve alongside the community’s changing needs and expectations—while bridging the gap between the hospital and the public. CCHD leadership emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the wide range of services already available locally, helping residents avoid unnecessary travel by receiving quality care close to home.
Survey Details
• The survey is available online and at various local businesses in Hart, Nazareth, and Dimmitt. It invites residents to share their general knowledge of CCHD services and their personal experiences with its facilities. Whether it’s feedback about clinic visits, communication, access to care, or overall impressions—every response matters.
• “Our goal is to improve health outcomes, enhance the patient and family experience, and uphold the highest standards of professional nursing practice in everything we do,” said Monia Anne Venhaus, RN, Director of Nurses for Plains Memorial Hospital and Chief Nursing Officer for CCHD. “Direct community input will help us identify areas where our services may be lacking or could be enhanced.”
A Strategic Partnership for Stronger Rural Healthcare
Recognizing the vital role of community feedback in shaping the future of rural healthcare, CCHD is collaborating with Health Connect, an organization dedicated to improving healthcare systems through strategic planning, community engagement, and long-term sustainability.
Founded by Barry Couch, Health Connect has developed a consulting approach called Strategic Advisory Services, which helps healthcare organizations work collaboratively to identify priorities, build consensus, and set practical, forward-thinking goals. This partnership is designed to protect and strengthen access to care in small communities like Castro County.
Health Connect works side-by-side with districts like CCHD to turn community insight into action—ensuring healthcare services grow stronger and remain responsive to local needs.
Community Voices Will Shape the Future
“I’m excited to collaborate with Health Connect to strengthen the relationship between our community and the hospital district as we work to improve healthcare in Castro County,” said Elisha Rosier. “Hospital districts play a vital role in building strong, healthy communities, and it’s our goal to ensure ours continues to grow and serve our county for many years to come. The community survey is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and highlight any gaps in local healthcare services. Once the results are in, the hospital district—working together with Health Connect and community leaders—will use your input to set achievable goals that help improve healthcare access and provide quality care.”
Community Participation Encouraged
CCHD invites all residents to participate in the brief, anonymous survey—regardless of how often they’ve used hospital services. Whether you’ve been a patient, accompanied a loved one, or simply want to share your perspective, your voice matters.
Complete the survey by scanning the QR code.
The feedback collected will help guide improvements in care delivery, patient experience, access to services, and overall community outreach—ensuring Castro County remains a place where high-quality, compassionate care is always within reach.
For more information about the survey or the services offered by CCHD, please contact Elisha Rosier, CCO of CCHD, at 806-647-8700.
