Too many families across the 74th District are opening their energy bills and wondering how they are supposed to keep up.

When Springfield makes decisions that affect what we pay, the people footing the bill deserve to be heard, not drowned out by corporate influence.

That is why I haven’t accepted a dime from corporate PACs, and I never will. My commitment is to the working families, seniors, farmers, small businesses, and communities of this district.

What should Illinois do to make energy bills more affordable? Let me know in the comments.

Three years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 Memorial and pay my respects. Twenty-five years have now passed since that day. May we never forget those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, or those we have lost in the years since as a result of the attacks.

People often speak of the unity and strength Americans showed in the days that followed. While we have not forgotten 9/11, I fear we may be losing sight of that shared spirit. Across lines of race, gender, religion, and creed, Americans came together to support one another and help our country rebuild.

As we remember those we lost, may we also renew that spirit. Let us honor their memory through compassion, service, and a shared commitment to one another. Even in our most difficult moments, our country is strongest when we stand together.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed the Second Bill of Rights in 1944 with the belief that every American deserves a fair opportunity to build a secure and dignified life.

Eighty-two years later, too many working families still struggle to afford healthcare, housing, education, and the basic necessities of everyday life. I am running to help change that. If elected, I will fight to strengthen the economic protections and opportunities envisioned in the Second Bill of Rights and make sure government once again works for the people it is meant to serve.
