Candlelight Vigil and 13 Nights on the River Concert for St. Helens City Administrator John Walsh

The City of St. Helens, Treadway Events, and the Walsh family invite the St. Helens community to attend a candlelight vigil and 13 Nights on the River concert in honor of St. Helens City Administrator John Walsh. The vigil and concert will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Columbia View Park on the St. Helens waterfront.

This Thursday’s concert features the band Bon Bon Vivant, John’s favorite 13 Nights band. The concert begins at 5 p.m. and will include a dedication to John Walsh prior to the music starting. John and his family are regular attendees of the concert series. Flowers and a photo of John will be placed at the family’s regular attendance spot to pay tribute to John. Thank you to Beyond the Forest for donating the flower arrangement.

Attendees are encouraged to visit a memorial for John set up inside the park to leave notes, cards, flowers, or other special remembrances. City of St. Helens staff will gather cards and notes left at the memorial to present to the Walsh family.

After the concert ends, a candlelight vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. The vigil will include a moment of silence and a short tribute to John from his City of St. Helens staff. Candles will be available for attendees to light, but the community is also encouraged to bring their own candle in case supplies run out.

WHOA. The two Mark Morris High School students who are now facing multiple charges, including second-degree r**e, reportedly received just 3 DAY SUSPENSIONS.

3 days. That’s it.

When allegations are serious enough to lead to criminal charges, it’s hard to understand how a 3 day suspension was considered an appropriate punishment.

One of the students is scheduled to stand trial beginning July 13. The other student’s trial has been delayed until January 2027.

And remember — this is the same case that resulted in the superintendent being arrested on allegations of witness tampering, failure to report, and obstructing law enforcement, while other school officials are also facing charges.

Court records show the suspect in the Sandy triple murder had a criminal history dating back nearly 20 years.

According to KOIN, his record includes convictions involving stolen vehicles, drug trafficking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and a later indictment for stabbing a man with a knife. Court records also show he was prohibited from possessing fi****ms and other weapons.

Yet despite years of criminal activity and repeated encounters with the justice system, he remained free to take three innocent lives, seriously wound a police officer, and devastate multiple families.

I’ve already seen some politicians use this tragedy to call for more gun control, but it’s worth remembering that the suspect was already legally prohibited from possessing fi****ms. More laws wouldn’t have changed that reality if existing laws weren’t being enforced.

Three people are dead. A police officer is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. A community is grieving.

At some point, we have to ask the hard question: How many chances does someone get before public safety becomes the priority?

This isn’t just a tragedy. It’s a reminder that a criminal justice system that repeatedly fails to hold dangerous offenders accountable ultimately fails the innocent people forced to live with the consequences.

Federal authorities say Gene Arnold McLenithan, a convicted s*x offender from Salem, cut into the tent of two women camping near Tillamook, covered their heads, restrained them, and threatened to s*xually assault them before they managed to escape and get help.

Investigators say McLenithan was later found with multiple knives, zip ties, duct tape, rope, and other items.

Evil exists.
