I had made a post on another group a while back on the height of the doork***s in my 1847 home, but I could not locate, thus another post.

The Palo Alto Plantation home was built in the 1840s by ancestor Pierre Ayraud, who was of French descent. According to all the charts, the average French man during the 1840s was 5'4" (see info in comments).

The official definition being "in older homes, door k***s are often placed lower than in newer construction due to a combination of factors including the historical prevalence of shorter people, the architectural styles of the time, and the way doors are constructed."

Hand hewn wooden beams in the Palo Alto Plantation kitchen are logs that have been cut down and carved with handheld tools. Essentially, hand hewn beams are long pieces of timber that have been changed from round to square in shape. When sawn to the proper length, such timbers can be used not just as beams, but roof trusses and joints as well. Kitchen has recently been restored with fresh plaster and paint.

Part of Antebellum Home Caregiving is regular maintenance. My house and contents are everywhere and many pieces of furniture are still in the rooms covered with paint resistance cover. She will be well worth it in the end.

Paint, plaster, sander, primer, trim, dust and crown moldings... I feel like this beautiful lady will begin anew with a bright future and what a restoration of LOVE.
