⚠️Southern Arizona Community Alert: Deadly carfentanil found in Tucson’s street drug local supply for the first time ever in Tucson.

This opioid is 100x stronger than fentanyl and can kill in microdoses. Officials urge everyone to avoid all street drugs and be alert, Narcan may not work against it.

💢 Public Safety Alert Issued
“This is an urgent and extremely serious public health threat,” said Dr. Theresa Cullen, Director of the Pima County Health Department. “Carfentanil is a game-changer. It’s not just deadly, it’s almost undetectable and can take lives in seconds.”

📛The department has issued an emergency public safety bulletin, warning drug users, first responders, and the public at large about the heightened risks. Officials say anyone handling suspicious substances—even police and EMTs, should take extreme precautions, including the use of gloves and masks.📛

❓What is Carfentanil?
Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid 10,000 times more powerful than morphine and 100 times stronger than fentanyl. It is used legally only in veterinary medicine to sedate large animals such as elephants. Even a few micrograms, less than a grain of salt, can be deadly to humans. Officials stress that it is not approved for human use and extremely resistant to overdose reversal drugs like naloxone (Narcan) in standard doses.❓
