By Frank Moore

TO THE EDITOR:
Our Wyoming Republican Party and (its) new Candidate Endorsement Policy are going to disenfranchise a large percentage of Wyoming Republicans, and the justifications for this change may not be valid.

Renovated city pool, waterpark opens amid much fanfare, huge crowds
By Clifford Smith

The temperatures continue to rise and the sun begins to swelter as Wyoming moves into its summer months and famously dry air, and it can be hard to find a way to cool down and relax. This year brings back a popular option to beat the heat as the Douglas Municipal Water Park (DMWP) opened up its doors for splashin’ and swimmin’ May 29 after a two-year remodel.

Making It Personal:
Teacher of the Year connects with students via literature that touches them emotionally
By Charles Farmer

Teacher Baylee Kerkvliet’s classroom would be a shock to anyone older than 30. Gone are the days of beige walls, migraine-inducing fluorescent lights and DARE posters.

Kerkvliet’s classroom wouldn’t look out of place in an Anthropologie catalogue. Twinkle string lights criss-cross the ceiling, and her tidy desk has enough pens to stock the Douglas Business Center.

Part of the wall by the door to her Douglas High School English classroom is covered in Polaroids of students and shared memories . . .

Council OKs first 7 Trails apartment complex
By Charles Farmer

The Douglas City Council on a 4-1 vote approved a final development agreement for the Seven Trails apartment complex near the new Maverik store.

The development agreement allows the Stencil Group to obtain a permit for the construction of their new apartment complex on the west side of Douglas. The agreement lays out the terms of the construction between the city and the developer, in addition to the zoning requirements of the building. Converse County does not have zoning, but the City of Douglas does.

The apartment complex is a 104-unit complex to be built on . . .

Hello All!
If you haven't met me yet, my name is Nate Pappas, I am a photojournalist/reporter here in town for the Budget. Currently I am working on beginning to put together our yearly Hunting Guide and have a request to make of all of you. If you have any photos from last year's hunting and fishing season that you would like featured in this year's guide, please send them to me via email at [email protected].

If you are sending photos please follow these parameters:

1.) Make sure the photo is high resolution (if you are using an apple product to send them, please make sure to select the "actual size" option otherwise they will be compressed, lowering the resolution)

2.) Make sure you are the owner of the photo

3.) If there are multiple people in the photo, please list their names with descriptors so I can identify who is who (even if it's as simple as left to right)

4.) If possible, provide the date the photo was captured

5.) The more in the act of hunting or fishing, the better. Please don't just send me a photo of you holding up your bounty. Photos showing off your bounty are certainly welcomed, however!

Thank you so much, I look forward to seeing your lovely pictures.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email

Individuals and for-profit businesses are ineligible for the RBDG program.

RBDG grants may be for rural projects that finance and facilitate development of small and emerging rural businesses, feasibility studies and business plans, distance learning networks, employment related adult education programs and more.

NOTE: The application window is very short for Fiscal Year 2026. If you are interested in applying for the RBDG program, we highly encourage you to register with SAM.gov and contact our office to discuss your project as soon as possible.
