The SMP record label was formally established in 1995, although it started out producing records in 1993, for E40, CBO, Spice 1, The Click, Richie Rich and Tupac, after successfully creating a name and a Bay Area sound that is know to many as Mobb Music, Mike Mosley and SMP were signed by Big John Platt at EMI publishing. The SMP deal is still currently active with co-pub deals with producer Rick
Rock. In 1994 SMP started releasing underground albums through it distribution deal with City Hall Records, from up and coming artist EZSD, Feaky Fred, Gelo, & others, then in 1998 SMP label did a deal with Clockwork Sony/Epic records, with SMP artist TQ, which sold 1.5mil records worldwide. Shortly after, TQ was released from Epic and went on to ink a deal with Cash Money Records. SMP now focuses on picking up albums from established and up and coming artist that are in between label deals. Through it's digital distribution chain, SMP gives it's fans a centralized location to get some of the best content possible in Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock, & Gospel. SMP has stock piled a library of albums from new and established artist. Since It's humble beginnings In a tiny studio in Vallejo CA, to it's Multi-Platinum work with the Legendary Tupac Shakur, and the 20 million records sold under it's production brand, SMP definitely has the experience to take nothing and turn it into something!!
