Living Souls, Praise the Lord
Introduction
Begin by declaring: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord” (Psalm 150:6).
Explain that the primary duty of every living soul is to give glory to God.
Distinguish between the living and the dead: those who are alive have the privilege and responsibility to praise God.
1. The Meaning of a Living Soul
Genesis 2:7 – God breathed into man the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
A living soul is not just physically alive, but spiritually sensitive to God.
Being alive is a gift; being able to praise God is evidence that we are still carriers of His breath.
2. Why Living Souls Must Praise the Lord
1. Because of Who He Is
He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer.
Psalm 103:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.”
2. Because of What He Has Done
Salvation through Christ (John 3:16).
Daily protection, provision, and preservation (Lamentations 3:22-23).
3. Because It Is a Command
Psalm 150:1–6 repeatedly commands us to praise.
Praise is not optional; it is the lifestyle of the redeemed.
4. Because the Dead Cannot Praise Him
Psalm 115:17 – “The dead do not praise the Lord, nor any who go down into silence.”
Only the living have the privilege to worship and testify of God’s goodness.
3. The Power of Praise
Opens the heavens (2 Chronicles 20:22 – Jehoshaphat’s victory through praise).
Brings deliverance (Acts 16:25–26 – Paul and Silas in prison).
Attracts God’s presence (Psalm 22:3 – God inhabits the praises of His people).
Transforms situations – Praise turns mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11).
4. How Living Souls Should Praise the Lord
With the whole heart (Psalm 9:1).
With our voices – singing, shouting, testifying.
With instruments – Psalm 150 emphasizes the trumpet, harp, tambourine, stringed instruments, cymbals.
With our bodies – dancing, clapping, bowing, lifting hands.
With our lives – Romans 12:1, presenting our bodies as living sacrifices.
5. Hindrances to Genuine Praise
Sin and disobedience (Isaiah 59:2).
Ingratitude and forgetfulness (Luke 17:17 – the story of the ten lepers).
Pride and self-dependence.
Spiritual lukewarmness.
6. The Reward of Living Souls Who Praise God
Joy and peace (Isaiah 61:3).
Breakthroughs and miracles (Joshua 6:20 – Jericho walls fell through praise).
Divine lifting (Psalm 67:5-6 – praise releases increase and harvest).
Eternal relevance – In heaven, the only constant activity is worship (Revelation 4:8-11).
Conclusion
Every living soul is commanded to praise the Lord.
Praise is the natural response of a grateful heart.
The ultimate question: “Are you a living soul in Christ, or are you dead in sin?”
True living begins when we surrender to Jesus.
Call to action: As long as you have breath, let your life become an altar of praise.
