🎸 In 2001, Painted Girl Records (PGR) released what turned out to be a prophetic song I wrote. It was a socially conscious Ska/Punk song from my "Mary Lemanski & The Addicktives" EP. The Addicktives were a local punk band and my ex-husband's band at the time. 🎸
🎶 I went through a brief reggae/ska period of songwriting in the early 2000s. The only song that was recorded from those songs was a song called "Hello Out There." Not only did PGR release it, but it appeared on a compilation or two as well. 🎶
📜 I pulled out the lyrics recently, and they are quite prophetic. They pretty much describe everything that is happening right now today. 📜

Institutionalizing, stifling creativity, what for?
Can't you see there's more to life than homework and college prep, nagging, and beating up your little kids to death?
All this fighting left and right. The PTA has lost its sight. Let the children lead in the darkness of the night.
Politicians pointing a finger at Hollywood for all the mess. Going to fancy parties, worrying whose paying who, what for?
Can't you see there's more to life than passing bills and s*x, smart bombs, nuclear waste, and terrorist attacks?
All this fighting left and right. It isn't black. It isn't white. If I turn away, it may turn out all right.
Philosophers thinking about things we've all thought before, listening to trending music, wondering why we're here, what for?
Can't you see there's more to life than foreign ci******es, coffee shops, civil rights, and subculture social sects?
All this fighting left and right. Who is wrong and who is right? Apathy is not consistent with our plight!
Religious leaders at war with each other for whose God is the best.
Going to ice cream socials and fighting the government, what for?
Can't you see there's more to life than apocalyptic dreams, tithes, alter boys, and money making schemes?
All this fighting left and right. Your God is wrong and mine is right. Well let me tell you something, my God doesn't fight.
