It’s hard to make out but when I was cleaning finds I noticed some script writing on this silver plated butter knife. Turns out this is a Southern Railway butter knife. It went from being kinda cool to extremely cool. The moral of the story is double check your finds lol.

This small buckle likely once fastened a gentleman’s knee breeches during the late 1600s or early 1700s. Long before blue jeans and belt loops, buckles like this were part of everyday fashion across Britain.

Someone lost it centuries ago and never came back. Today it’s a small reminder that history isn’t just found in castles and museums, sometimes it’s found in a plowed field.

This beautiful old flat button appears to be an 18th century tombac button with a hand carved sunburst design.

What gets me is knowing someone carefully engraved these tiny details by hand centuries ago, putting time and skill into something most people would have considered ordinary. They never could have imagined it would survive beneath the soil long after they were gone.

That’s the magic of history to me.
