Today, we remember Sergeant Gregory L. Hunter ( #086), End of Watch: June 18, 2004.

A 30-year veteran and the first African American officer commissioned by the city, Sgt. Hunter was ambushed and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle with another officer. He lived a life of service, faith, honor, and humility, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire.

Remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, mentor, and friend, Sgt. Hunter answered the call with courage and never wavered in his commitment to protect others.

Gone, but never forgotten.

NEW AT EPICCENTRAL: 360° DOME THEATER APPROVED

Grand Prairie is getting a new attraction.

Mayor Ron Jensen announced that city leaders have approved plans for a 360-degree immersive dome theater at EpicCentral. The venue is expected to seat around 400 people and provide a one-of-a-kind experience unlike anything currently available in the city.

Jensen said the closest comparison is the Omni Theater in Fort Worth, but this new dome theater will bring an immersive entertainment experience to Grand Prairie and add another attraction to the rapidly growing EpicCentral district.

Renderings shared by the mayor show the dome situated along the waterfront with surrounding gathering spaces and pedestrian areas.

According to , westbound I-30 in Grand Prairie has been temporarily closed as Grand Prairie Fire Department and Grand Prairie Police work to clear a crash near the President George Bush Turnpike.

The closure has caused significant traffic delays for motorists traveling toward Arlington from the east.

Fans heading to AT&T Stadium for the Netherlands vs. Japan FIFA World Cup match should expect delays and consider allowing extra travel time.

Congratulations to David Chappelle on his victory in the Grand Prairie City Council District 3 runoff election.

According to unofficial results from Dallas County Elections, Chappelle received 274 votes (64.9%) to Amber Timberlake’s 148 votes (35.1%).

Grand Prairie News congratulates Councilman-elect David Chappelle and wishes him success as he prepares to serve the residents of District 3.

Election results remain unofficial until the canvassing process is complete.
