Proposals are currently being accepted from U.S. schools, museums, and community youth organizations (working individually or together) to host an amateur radio contact with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2026. To maximize the events, ARISS - Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (https://www.ariss.org/) is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed STEM engagement plan. On August 14, 1945, Japanese Emperor Hirohito recorded a radio address announcing Japan's surrender. American President Harry Truman announced Japan’s intention to surrender to the American public on August 14 at 7:00 p.m. Washington, D.C., time. Although the formal surrender ceremony wouldn’t take place until September 2, celebrations erupted across the United States and the globe as World War II was finally brought to an end.
