Parade season is here! Homecoming, Halloween, Veteran's Day, Christmas! All the fun times for kids and families!
However, the past years have become more and more dangerous with children, and at times some adults, running into the middle of the parade route; in front of floats and vehicles and even in the middle of marching bands!
We ask that to keep parade activities safe for spectators AND participants to PLEASE Stay out of the parade route! A good barrier to use for example on Main St is the parking spaces. Please do not allow your children out past the end of the parking spaces and into the middle of the road. We want everyone to have a great time but more importantly we want EVERYONE to be safe. All it would take would be a child being injured to ruin good, family events for everyone.

Main St Pole Decorating hosted by Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce!

It's Almost Time!!! Your Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring you the Annual Halloween Lamp Post decorating contest on Main Street again this year!

RULES-
1. Stop by the water department to sign up (water department is open M-F 8-4pm). You will be given a number to place on your selected lamp post. This number will identify you so you can be judged. IT WILL BE ANNOUNCED HERE WHEN NUMBERS ARE READY TO PICK UP AND CLAIM YOUR POLE!!
2. Lantern locations are on a first come first serve. No one will have a preference.
3. All Lanterns are to be decorated by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 16th or earlier. Decorating can begin October 1st or after.
4. Individuals, Families, Businesses and Organizations are invited to participate. You do not have to be a chamber member to participate!
5. All Lanterns must be decorated and displayed in a Halloween or Fall theme.
6. All decorations must face the street
7. Any cruel or vulgar displays will be removed immediately without question.
8. Judging will take place on October 26th and winners will be announced with winner's ribbons on or before October 31st
9. Decorations must be taken down by Friday, November 6th or they may be disposed of.

PRIZES-
Prizes will be awarded to the winners in a form of a gift certificate, which may be spent at ANY OF OUR Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce BUSINESS MEMBER LOCATIONS.
1st Place- $100
2nd Place- $75
3rd Place- $50

There are approximately 50 Lanterns on Main Street. We hope you will participate in this event and make Du Quoin a festive community for Halloween.

“Have siblings on the board they said, it will be fun they said.”

Hey, we still have a day and a half of the fair! Weather is laying down and there’s a breeze. We are in the grandstand today for the races. Practice started at 3, races at 6:30.

Then, tomorrow evening we will see you for Randy Houser. Which by the way, our friends at the DuQuoin State Fair are inviting southern Illinois first responders & their guest to attend the concert tomorrow for FEEE! (See their fbook page for more details)

We are seeking an energetic, Du Quoin loving individual to fill our part-time executive director position. When we say multi-tasking is a must, that is no joke.

This includes but is not limited to day to day operations, record keeping, event planning, nurturing membership and adding new members, coordinating promotions and more.

This individual must have strong organizational skills, be a self-starter, community oriented, motivated, friendly, and ready to get involved. The Chamber of Commerce serves as a focal point for the business community, organizing and combining the talents and resources of our membership to help Du Quoin put its best foot forward to prospective businesses, investors, new residents, and tourists. We’re about teamwork, and our voluntary committees and projects give members the chance to work together to create a better future for Du Quoin commercially, as well as a better quality of life for our families.

The detailed job description is as follows. These duties are not all-inclusive of the job and are subject to change from month to month:

Nourishing current membership and logging new members, ribbon cuttings, managing bank accounts, meetings, special events, working with regional chambers, and various office duties.

Various office duties include but are not limited to: Utilizing our member management system and social media to encourage membership and community representatives to attend events, respond to emails/phone calls, pick up mail, bill membership and sponsors, update coupons, work w/ committee chairs and the president to prepare monthly meetings, balance QuickBooks, and more.
