From TxDOT on latest regarding Patrick Street project:
Work on the Business 377 (Patrick Street) project has resumed after a short time delay awaiting the manufacture and delivery of culverts to be installed under the roadway to improve drainage at Live Oak Street.

This week, TxDOT plans to install a temporary signal at State Highway 6 (Blackjack Street) and Patrick Street. Once the temporary signal is tested and operational, Patrick Street from Elm Street to Blackjack will reopen to two-way traffic. Work on the permanent traffic signals at Blackjack and Patrick is underway as well.

After Patrick Street reopens south of Blackjack Street, work will continue north of the intersection between Blackjack and Live Oak Street. Work will continue through December. After a regularly scheduled holiday break between Christmas and New Year’s, work will resume in early January.

A slew of holiday happenings is scheduled for this week and weekend, several including Dublin ISD students.

Christmas band concert
At 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, Dublin ISD bands will ring in the holiday spirit with a concert featuring the 6th grade beginner band, Junior High Concert Band, High School Jazz Band and High School Symphonic Band.

The program will feature a wide range of holiday classics like ‘Jingle Bells,’ ‘Jolly Old Saint Nicolas,’ and ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ along with others to showcase the bands’ musicality.

The concert is free to attend, however, is followed by a donation- based dessert supper to raise funds for the Sound of Dublin band program.

Theatre Merry Mystery
The DHS Theatre program is staging a merry mystery Saturday, Dec. 13 at the old auditorium (419 N Camden) to help raise funds for the upcoming season.

Director Aimee Spharler reported the group (which has performed mainly dramas) is getting out of their comfort zone for a comedic Christmas mystery, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like a Mystery” by Tracy Wells.

The Christmas whodunit centers on the Lambert family who discover the Jesus figurine is missing when decorating. Drawing parallels with the Nativity story, the family embarks (with the help of a detective) to solve the mystery and get the figure back in the manger.

The play (which lasts about an hour) will be staged at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Entry is free but donations are accepted. A bake sale will also be hosted during the event and a nativity photo op will be set up in the foyer.

All funds will go to help the program with expenses like costumes, props and trips for the students to go see performances.

Pics with Santa
Those who missed out on pictures with Santa last weekend can come on into the CWJC Thrift store from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 13 to see Jolly Old St. Nicholas. Don’t forget to make sure to mail is your lists to Santa!

Crafting with Hank
Love Annie’s Therapeutic Companions? Spend some extra time with the doggos and make a fun holiday ornament. The activity will use Hank’s pawprints with paint to turn them into Christmas ornaments for the kids to take home for their holiday memories. The event will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Dublin Public Library.

All ages of kids are welcome to attend, organizers said. Parent accompaniment is required.

Orris Homer Griggs, 79, of Dublin, Texas, passed away on Nov. 25, 2025. Though born Orris, he was known to nearly everyone simply as Homer—a name he much preferred and one that became synonymous with kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength.

Homer was born on May 14, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles Nathan Griggs and Anna Vivian Easterling. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn a B.B.A. from North Texas College, now the University of North Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves.

A true cowboy at heart, Homer had been a horseman for as long as anyone could remember, but it was in the early 1970s that he found his true home in the cutting horse world, where he built lifelong friendships and earned deep admiration. He loved all animals, but none more than his devoted toy chihuahua, Izzy. The two were inseparable, sharing a bond that lasted through Homer’s final days. He was also widely recognized within the homing, Roller, and Modena pigeon communities.

Homer is survived by his wife, Carole Griggs, and her children, Cy Bellamy of Kingsley, Pennsylvania, and his wife Jennifer and daughter Shaylee, and Kimberlee Bellamy of Dublin, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins who loved him dearly.

Through the love and devotion, he shared with Carole, he showed and counseled many on what it meant to love deeply and to be loved. His steady presence, gentle wisdom, and unwavering loyalty shaped countless lives.

Homer’s legacy lives on in the animals he cared for, the family who cherished him, and the quiet, enduring kindness he left in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Harrell Funeral Home followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Baptist Church, 273 CR 527 in Dublin.

Edgar Rodriguez learned to play soccer when he was 12. He played for the local team Quest FC through high school, and continued to play in college. Now, when Rodriguez gets some free time from his career in the oilfield, he loves passing on the love of the sport to his young daughter.

Rodriguez graduated from Dublin High School in 2010 and went to Ranger Junior College, where he played soccer for two years and earned his associates degree. He got some offers from out-of- state schools to play for them, but opted to stay close to his family, and in 2012 he transferred to Howard Payne, and then to Tarleton in 2013, where he studied sports medicine.
