Kill Devil Hills Lifeguard Competition 🏄

Tonight’s competition is being held at the Ocean Bay Beach Access in Kill Devil Hills and will start at 6:45pm.

Tonight’s events include:
• 2k Beach Run
• Landline Rescue
• Surf Rescue
• Board Rescue

4 weeks until Memorial Day… who is ready for the Summer 2025 season?!?

The count down is on!! In just a few weeks our guards will be back on the beach and training for the start of the season. Before we know it we will be guarding the beautiful beaches along the Outer Banks!!

As we approach the end of the season, our operations have changed.

Daily ATV beach patrols have ended. We have supervisors in a truck patrolling until the end of October. If you see someone in need of help… CALL 911!!

Flags poles are being removed and flags displaying the rip current risk and daily advisories are no longer being flown. This does not mean that there is no risk, so to check the daily rip current risk, go to https://www.lovethebeachrespecttheocean.com

On September 11, 2001 tragedy struck our nation. Today we remember those who were lost, those who suffered, and those who sacrificed their lives and safety for others.

To the first responders who ran into the danger without hesitation—thank you for acting quickly when put in the most difficult of situations.

To the civilians who so innocently gave their lives, thank you for your bravery.

A huge thank you to our incredible OBX lifeguards for always having our backs, especially during the recent big swells and rip tides brought by the hurricane swells. Your dedication and quick actions keep us safe in and out of the water. 🌊🙏

TROPICAL STORM DEBBY 🌧️💨🌊

TS Debby made landfall in South Carolina early this morning and will continue lifting north through central North Carolina this afternoon into early Friday morning.

The biggest impact from TS Debby will be life-threatening flash flooding due to several days of heavy rainfall, lasting through Friday. Additional rainfall amounts will range 2-6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening. Additionally, there is a threat for gusty winds and tornadoes through Friday.

🚩 Single Red Flags are flying at Duck, Southern Shores, Coquina, Rodanthe and Buxton beaches. At this time ocean swimming is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED due to HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK!!

🚩🚩Double Red “NO SWIMMING” Flags are flying at Frisco and Ocracoke. At this time ocean swimming is not allowed.
