I'm Nina Cherie Franklin, the face and spirit behind "That Salad Lady." While my work revolves around a love for salad making, my background is quite diverse. I hold a PhD in Kinesiology, Nutrition and Rehabilitation and have multiple certifications in these areas. My professional journey spans roles as a research scientist, healthy living coach and wellness consultant. This path is deeply persona

l, shaped by my experiences as a working mom and wife as well as my own health challenges, including anxiety, food addiction and obesity. Through these challenges, I've discovered the transformative power of mindful eating and the joy of making salads. "That Salad Lady" isn't just a nickname; it's a commitment to you. It's about sharing the joy and simplicity of creating nourishing, flavorful bowls that cater to your health without sacrificing taste. My guiding principles focus not just on what goes into our bowls but on using each meal as a step towards a healthier, more fulfilled life. With easy-to-follow recipes, evidence-based insights and a dash of creativity, my goal is to help you build confidence in your eating choices and find delight in every bite. No matter where you are in your health journey or what you're hoping to find here, I promise a space that welcomes all. I'm here to offer the tools and encouragement needed to explore new foods, flavors and the overall joy of eating well. Thank you for joining me on this journey to health and happiness, one bowl at a time.

Throwing it back to this bowl of boldness I made for Juneteenth. It’s my Rainbow Black-Eyed Peas Salad with Fresh Collards—a modern take on a classic combo that’s been feeding generations ✨

Black-eyed peas and collard greens have long symbolized hope, prosperity and strength in African-American food culture. This salad is my way of honoring that legacy with fresh veggies, bold flavor and a whole lot of crunch.

Juneteenth reminds us of where we’ve been and how far we’ve come and food tells that story in powerful ways. No matter your background, there’s always room at the table to learn, share and grow ❤️💛💚

: You don’t have to earn your summer ✨

Cookouts, cocktails, travel, long days—it’s a lot. But you don’t need to start over every Monday. You don’t need to “clean things up” just because the weekend was full.

💭 Ask yourself: How can I show up for myself today without guilt or extremes?

For me, sometimes it’s this—starting the day with water, fresh fruit and a little intention.

It’s not all or nothing. It’s about what supports you.

You’re not behind. You’re not starting over.

You’re just moving forward, one choice at a time 💚

What’s one way you’re showing up for yourself today? Tell me in the comments or save this post as your reminder 👇🏾

Honoring My Father, Celebrating Yours 💙

Father’s Day has always been tough for me. In 2016, I lost my dad—the first man I ever loved—to complications from a stroke. His death was sudden, painful and, honestly, still hard to talk about. But in his own way, my father lived on his terms and I’ve come to find peace in that.

Recently, I revisited an old text conversation between us—one that brought back a flood of memories. My dad wasn’t a fan of doctors or Western medicine, but he trusted me. When he was diagnosed with high blood pressure back in 2004, I encouraged him to try a different path. Beets, garlic, berries, chlorophyll—you name it, he did it. Not perfectly, but persistently.

For more than a decade, he managed his blood pressure naturally and stayed active in ways that mattered to him.

He believed in quality of life over quantity of years. That belief ultimately cost him more time here—but I understand it. I even admire it. And it’s helped shape how I define “healthy living” today.

This Father’s Day, I want to celebrate the men out there who are showing up for their health, whether perfectly or imperfectly. To the fathers, uncles, brothers, sons and mentors—your health matters. Your choices matter. Not just for you, but for the people who love you ❤️

So, in memory of my dad—and in honor of all of you—here’s to striving for healthspan, not just lifespan. Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep moving. Let’s keep choosing better 🙌🏾

Happy Father’s Day 👑

: You don’t need a complete overhaul to reset your energy. Sometimes it’s one intentional meal. One prep session. One moment that reminds you—this is how I care for myself.

This week, I’m choosing:
✨ Peace over pressure
✨ Fuel over restriction
✨ Boundaries over burnout
✨ Presence over perfection

It’s not about doing it all. It’s about doing what matters—and doing it on purpose.

What’s one small choice you’re making this week to show up for you 💬👇🏾

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mind, your body and your spirit…is log off ✨

That’s exactly what I did. For close to three weeks.

I stepped away from social—not because something was wrong, but because I needed space to reset.

To get quiet. To get clear.

There’s so much noise online right now. And honestly? I didn’t want to carry that energy into my space.

I deleted the apps. Stepped away from the scroll. And I let myself breathe. Fully.

And while I missed being here…I missed you…I chose myself. Because sometimes, that’s what self-care really looks like.

Social media can be an amazing tool for connection and growth. But if you’re not careful, it can drain you too.

This break gave me clarity, creativity and real rest.

Now I’m back. Grounded. Nourished. Ready to keep showing up with purpose.

That Salad Lady has always been about more than just food. It’s about function. Healing. Building wellness that lasts.

If you’ve been feeling scattered, overwhelmed or just tired… I see you. Let this post be your reminder: it’s okay to pause. You deserve that peace too.

Let’s keep growing—together 💚
