In light of the post-covid renaissance of live shows, here is my concerted effort to light fire back into the local music and arts scene.

On The Record is a music & arts zine on a mission to:
Uplift arts and artists in Duluth-Superior,
Increase access to local arts news & opportunity,
Support a thriving arts scene & vibrant arts economy, &
Build community within & around the arts. On The Record is a biweekly Duluth-Superior music and arts zine with a resolute listing of music, theatre, art, and indie film events in the twin ports,

plus some content from That Sound Lady and local contributing writers/creators. The goal between On The Record zine and That Sound Lady services is to create a thriving arts ecosystem in Duluth and Superior that adapts and evolves with the community. It’s designed to be print-first for those burnt out on the digital-first world, but you can access it online anytime. If you love being in know of all the local arts happenings and you want this ecosystem to thrive, help keep this going and growing! I’ll keep spending the hours sleuthing so you don’t have to. Here’s what you can do to support:

Very big thank you to ARACouncil for selecting OTR’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration event concept for the Art Project Grant! And thank you to our event community partners: Bent Paddle Brewing Co. , Resource Renew , Rebel Threads , and Siiviis Gallery

This celebration of our local artists and On The Record is made possible in (BIG) part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from Minnesota State Legislature’s General Fund! Our Arts Project Grant funding ensures that we’re able to adequately compensate collaborating artists and provide for the needs of both established and emerging artist selling pieces at the event- without charging any vendor fees. ARAC’s mission is to create a healthy art and cultural ecosystem by offering support and resources for artistic professional development and equitable access for arts organizations and individuals to benefit all communities. Their vision is one On The Record is also working toward: a THRIVING arts community in the arrowhead region. ARAC helps make it happen. OTR makes sure everyone knows about it! And those involved with ARAC are deeply connected to the work. Their board and staff roster is stacked with fantastic artists from the region! Next round of ARAC grants are due Sept 13! We’re so excited for all the interactive community art happening at On The Record’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration 8/22 at bent paddle! These collaborating artists are boldly showing up in new ways, and we can’t wait to celebrate them!

3PM - SUNSET:
✨ Join Prove Collective artists in creating a clay village. Add your piece to the little clay city on the hill!
✨ Onsite screenprinting by Ren Howl (of Between Howls) - with OTR and TPAC designs. BYO textile or purchase a blank item to print. Twin Ports Artists Collective will also be gathering your visions for the future of the twin ports arts scene.
✨ Haus of Q***r drag artists will be holding mini workshops inviting attendees to explore drag makeup & skill-building - BYO makeup (&/or facepaint) to follow along!

We love a lineup of artists with no business being in the same show together. 🖤 On The Record’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration is spanning across genres and bringing the twin ports music scene together!

🎷 5PM PINK MARLENA: tenor sax free jazz, spontaneous grooves with the original trio of Makwawigwamikwe Marlena Boedigheimer, Manny Eisele. & Ian Hopp.
🪩 6PM LEE CLARK ALLEN: classic soul timeless warmth, Alt R&B contemporary edge, introspective lyricism from an Writing Studies professor backed by smooth full-band grooves
🕺 7PM MID DREAM: musicians you know & love from The Latelys, now performing synthy pop-punk & big cathartic ballads with smoky-bar spirit - & more friends
🎸 8PM SOUTHPAW: post-Midwest mathcore, metal-adjacent instrumental jam band
