In light of the post-covid renaissance of live shows, here is my concerted effort to light fire back into the local music and arts scene.

On The Record is a music & arts zine on a mission to:
Uplift arts and artists in Duluth-Superior,
Increase access to local arts news & opportunity,
Support a thriving arts scene & vibrant arts economy, &
Build community within & around the arts. On The Record is a biweekly Duluth-Superior music and arts zine with a resolute listing of music, theatre, art, and indie film events in the twin ports,

plus some content from That Sound Lady and local contributing writers/creators. The goal between On The Record zine and That Sound Lady services is to create a thriving arts ecosystem in Duluth and Superior that adapts and evolves with the community. It’s designed to be print-first for those burnt out on the digital-first world, but you can access it online anytime. If you love being in know of all the local arts happenings and you want this ecosystem to thrive, help keep this going and growing! I’ll keep spending the hours sleuthing so you don’t have to. One more 3-week edition heading into the new year! After this one spanning December 16 - January 5 we’ll be back to the usual 2 week cycle. Make sure your NYE show info is out there too. If your venue hasn’t published the info on their website or social media, it can be pretty hard to find. Comment, dm, or email your arts happenings!

Wowie zowie more new local music to love?! Take a listen to the fresh EP, holiday album, and if you haven’t already been listening to the demos releases a couple months ago, commence that now!

All local performers (of all mediums) and live performance technicians: Please take the anonymous TPAC survey! put together these thoughtful questions to gather info primarily on compensation and will present it in January/February-ish to build transparency in our community. 🎵 It’s beginning to look a lot like Anti-gatekeeping.

Film world notes from Gerri Williams: Get acquainted with the Duluth Community Jazz Band playing tunes you likely already know and love from a whole host of films! 12/9 at the theater.

I’ll get post-print info updated in the google cal, but you can catch the truly magical holiday and anarchy experience from Planet Boub beginning December 7th with an evening Interdimensional tongue singing choir bar crawl along superior street. Lights on display at the Boubville yard after sunset, soft open on the 10th. Boubville fest: 11th-13th.

Very excited to highlight Carolyn Olson’s upcoming art exhibition at zeitgeist, “Mutual Aid” & “Chosen Family”. Both rooted in care. both requiring practice, time, and energy well shared.

Hiii did you know hermantown is considering an AI data center proposal? Did you know AI is facing all sorts of major law suits for stealing tons of artists’ and writers’ work? Please be sure to tell both Hermantown and Duluth city councils how you feel about that. Like asap.

Get in friend, we’re going to the Music Scene Safety Training! September 25th, 6-8pm in partnership with and - at Men As Peacemakers in downtown Duluth. We want Everyone who’s involved with live music and venues or who just attends shows to be there!

The death of poet laureate and activist Andrea Gibson has been hitting folks pretty hard. Thank you .the.vibe for sharing your words to help us process and also check in with ourselves. This season is so busy for so many of us; taking a moment to let our shoulders and jaws and eyebrows soften and ask our inner selves what we really need in order to feel at peace is so so important.
