In light of the post-covid renaissance of live shows, here is my concerted effort to light fire back into the local music and arts scene.

On The Record is a music & arts zine on a mission to:
Uplift arts and artists in Duluth-Superior,
Increase access to local arts news & opportunity,
Support a thriving arts scene & vibrant arts economy, &
Build community within & around the arts. On The Record is a biweekly Duluth-Superior music and arts zine with a resolute listing of music, theatre, art, and indie film events in the twin ports,

plus some content from That Sound Lady and local contributing writers/creators. The goal between On The Record zine and That Sound Lady services is to create a thriving arts ecosystem in Duluth and Superior that adapts and evolves with the community. It’s designed to be print-first for those burnt out on the digital-first world, but you can access it online anytime. If you love being in know of all the local arts happenings and you want this ecosystem to thrive, help keep this going and growing! I’ll keep spending the hours sleuthing so you don’t have to. Hope you all are having a happy, safe, and healthy homegrown! It’s so great to see so many folks come out to shows - let’s keep that energy going all year long!

Coinciding with Homegrown is this year’s Thunder Film Fest!! Such a cool tradition started by The fest this Saturday features , , and more.

Join this Saturday and every Saturday for some livestream Coffee and Guitar! Along with monthly guest guitar giants of the northwoods.

And take a big step back for some intergalactic poetic perspectives from Kyle O’Reilly, local poet who’s also featured in the recently published “Laminated Wildflowers” Duluth Failed Poets Society anthology.

Creativity and joy are not frivolous, they’re vital mechanisms for the body, especially right now. Take time to reset your nervous system. Dance it out, mosh it out, sing it out, art it out.

And anyone want to join on journey back to physical media? I’d love to know if/how you’re returning to dumb tech and exiting the race for whatever the ai end game is. The irony of announcing memberships while inviting folks to join me in unsubscribing from most of the digital sphere, while also posting this on algorithmic platforms, is not lost upon me. We do what we can with what we have to take steps towards the world we want to see. Every small step toward real community with real people is awesome!
