Dear Rich & Deena,
My husband and I started saving for our son’s college when he was a baby. We set aside a small amount from each paycheck, and by the time he turned 18, we had $200,000 to send him to almost any school he chose.

As high school graduation approached, my son chose to get a job repairing small engines. He has done well, and says he could make a lot more if he opened his own shop, but that will cost money. He has asked for his college fund to do it.

It is a fair request, as the college fund was money we set aside to lay the foundation for his future. My husband says a college fund is for college. He says businesses fail and go away, but college degrees do not.

Does my son deserve his college fund to open a business?
