KDAL signed on the air as a 100 watt station at 1490 kHz on November 22nd 1936. LeMasurier. LeMasurier was President and General Manager of the station for many years. On September 5th 1937 power was increased to 250 watts and the station joined the CBS Radio network. KDAL switched dial positions to the current 610 kHz on October 24th 1941 increasing power to 1000 watts. The switchover was dramati

cally made from an airplane flying over the city. In 1947 a new transmitter and tower were constructed at 63rd Avenue West on the St Louis River. KDAL increased its power to 5,000 watts on August 7th 1947.

4:30 PM Update: For areas around the Iron Range and north (Green, Area 1 on map), the threat for severe storms has diminished with just heavy rainfall and small hail expected into this evening. For areas from Brainerd to the Twin Ports (Highway 210 corridor, Blue, Area 2 on map), there remains a risk for an isolated severe storm producing large hail and gusty winds. However, for areas to the south - especially Pine County MN and Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer Counties WI - there remains a threat for tornadoes, very large hail and damaging winds. If you are in this area, be prepared to have multiple ways to receive warnings and a plan for shelter if storms threaten!

FIRST ALERT: The Storm Prediction Center has issued a TORNADO WATCH for Pine, Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer counties until 11pm tonight. Conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing large tornadoes. If you hear sirens or live in an area where a Tornado Warning is issued, seek shelter immediately! Stay tuned to Northern News Now for updates all night!
